It's a great iconic pizza place that sells pseudo-New York style pizza and is a historic part of Miami. Their seating area is big enough to house a couple of families, and is basically park area seating - long benches coupled with seats inside and metal benches under umbrellas outside. Really simple. It does tend to get packed on weekend afternoons, and weekdays during lunch time (12 pm - Beyond) so keep that in mind. Delivery is only within their immediate zip code, so going there is the best option.
Tip: Each "slice" of pizza is technically 2, so be sure to ask that they cut in in half when you pick yours up.
The price of each pie is equal to its size, and they can get pretty big. Now, I mentioned "pseudo-New York style" pizza earlier - while they're certainly large, and depending on the toppings, "gooey/cheesy/drippy/greasy", the crust is more similar to the powdered crispy Chicago crust, which is great for holding. Of course, based on the toppings, your crispiness may vary. The tomato sauce tastes great; as long as it's not excessive, the more the better.
What else do they sell? Well, a lot more stuff, but their specialties are subs and Calzones.
I can tell you right now that their subs are substantially good. Their best of course, are the meatball and the philly cheesesteak. While pricey, they are very well made and big enough that you'll get full with a half.
Their calzones, though...they need work. At least the ones I've eaten have been okay, but I've had better. Maybe the pizza-based ones could be better, but even in size, there are better, non-fast food franchised versions available in Miami. The sauce is great, it's pure marinara, but when the toppings in the calzone aren't that good, it deters from the experience.
Oh, by the way - they are CASH ONLY. They have two ATMs onsite, though if you're okay paying a fee to take money out, all good. Keep in mind to keep a few $20s in your pocket before going there.
They do have fountain drinks, so be sure to ask for a fountain drink cup or bring your own. If you're not okay with getting drinks from a machine, they do sell them in refrigerated bottles.
I enjoy their pizzas, and that's pretty much all a pizza place should excel at. It's a bit pricey, but if you want a good slice of pizza you can't...
Read moreBest Italian food delivery EVER. This is not your average review. I have a life story behind it. I’ll try to keep this short, but I’m gonna tell you exactly WHY Casola’s is as good as it gets to order delivery Italian food (or eat dine in) in the Coconut Grove area of Miami, which is the ZIP Code 33133.
I was born in Miami in 1972 and graduated Coral Gables High School 1990. After graduating from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL IN 1995, I dropped out of medical school and moved to New York City to become a filmmaker. It was when I first arrived in New York City that I understood what actual authentic good pizza is. That
Then 9/11 happened. I was in New York City for that event. Lost a couple friends when the towers came down and I actually was working across the street for Deutsche Bank doing computer graphics when it happened. Eventually, I came back to Miami and I’ve been down here ever since.
Ever since I’ve been down here, living in New York I learned what real Italian pizza is all about and other Italian dishes as well. Particularly different types of sandwiches. And I’ve learned that you get what you pay for in life when it comes to good Italian food and … In New York City, you could grab good Italian food and lots of different places but in Miami? No it don’t work that way.
There’s nothing worse than bad Italian food. I wanna come to Miami that’s all that’s on offer except for one place. Casolas. Is it the cheapest place around no, it’s not but you get what you pay for.
It’s not just my Miami native loyalty to you. That makes me a regular customer of cola. It’s the quality of their food. I pay a little extra for it. But it is so incredible. It’s the only legit Italian food in Miami at least in the Coconut Grove area.
I say this from the bottom of my heart and you’re welcome to Google my name Gentry Fry And hold me to this review. I never add my name to anything I don’t believe in.
Casola’s...
Read moreI went yesterday for the first time with my husband And son in after more than 20 years, everything there is cash, and they have an ATM just in case you dont have cash they charge you 2.50 fee plus the bank fee none of this mentioned when you come in they just have a small sign saying cash only, which I would like to add that the staff has horrible hospitality we ordered 2 subs a pizza and 2 ltr Pepsi we waited for about 40 minutes before it came out, the pizza was horrendous full of grease dripping out of the pizza and they use very cheap cheese, the place looks like your in mental ward, and very dirty the floor was dirty and the tables were all dirty not cleaned, when the food finally came out we asked for some cups with ice to drink our Pepsi that we bought and they gave us these cups that I wish I would have taken a picture of them they looked like extra small soup bowls or soup tasters when we asked the guy that cuts the pizza in front of you about these cups he said Spanish I don't have time for this and called the supervisor which she stated that that's what they are allowed to give out and we wanted the other cups that we had to pay 3 something for those cups even though we had bought the 2 ltr Pepsi total shocker they had no water cups for ice and water just those sample soup cups, we couldn't eat the pizza because it was just greasy my son, husband I only had one slice each and we had to throw it away thank God we did because we haven't stopped going to the bathroom the whole time, this place is not only disgusting but also a joke, they don't care about the customer but they also make people sick to their stomach literally. Never going back again if I could give it negative zero...
