Cute atmosphere and a nice riverside dining area. They allow dogs and even have a menu item for them. No cutlery when they brought food. No syrup brought with our kid’s plate. Burnt the eggs and had dry pancakes for her. We had looked at their menu online and saw some vegan options earlier in the week, but when we came there were none and the menu was different. The waitress tried to offer a stripped down breakfast platter but then promised something else entirely which never came. Eventually we had to the manager who seemed to think he was talking professionally with me but it was more like being barked and talked down to for being difficult. He came up with every excuse under the sun as to why they couldn’t accommodate a basic dietary restriction. I didn’t want to be difficult, I just wanted some food and asked nicely multiple times. They up charged me hard because they didn’t have any vegan options so they had to put something together and even charged me ‘service fee’ for just wanting some guacamole with two pieces of toast. Tremendo vergüenza and super opportunistic. The rest of the table didn’t even like their food very much. If you’re going to charge what you’re charging, at the very least get yourselves organized, and don’t treat your customers like a...
Read moreSometimes life conspires to bring the perfect people together for you for the perfect experience. Dinner at Don’s Diner tonight was like that. The only way to get what I’m saying is to go there, with the right mindset (open), at the right time (Tuesday night around 8:45pm), under specific circumstances (in my case, commemorating a friend lost to Covid), without planning it (two restaurants we tried first were closed and we couldn’t find the third). That’s a tall order, now that I’ve told you about this place, but, your soul will guide you there when you need it most and you’ll converse with the local born chef over a glass of whatever, after enjoying the perfectly cooked, medium rare, Gruyere hamburger lovingly wrapped in crispy, full-on healthy green romaine, if you’re gluten intolerant, and cream over the cauliflower mash, appreciate the attentions of the Connecticut born bartendress and French manager and thank the universe you were guided there. Complete the evening by taking that glass of whatever, through the back, along the outdoor corridor lined with mirrors and down the stairs into the lounge area lined with local trees overlooking the canal, hope the chef comes to share his story with you and have a...
Read moreHappy to see this little place on the river being used again. Went for a short rendezvous with an associate. The inside was beautiful, the furnishings were great, maybe bit more can be done to the riverside seating area? I ordered just the mussels. Didn’t come with a spoon or mussel fork. Unfortunately the broth was good but just warm and a few of the mussels were cold to the touch and 3 out of about 18 of the mussels were not open, making them inedible (this happens but this was maybe 1 too many). I was saddened by my experience at first because I wanted to love it. The service was good though. They ended up comping the meal when I didn’t ask them to and I would never do that by the way, I’d send the food back or never dine there again if anything. I tipped the server more than double that of what she would have received if tipped on the original bill at 20 percent. Although the hospitality group isn’t new, this spot is fairly new, so I’ll give it another...
