The Michigan City Sugar Bowl, a classic diner, offers a comforting dining experience that can be quite satisfying. I've had a pleasant Sunday breakfast experience there, but unfortunately, my recent carryout lunch experience was less than stellar.
My breakfast visit saw me enjoying the Country Benedict – a twist on the classic served on English muffins, but topped with a hearty sausage gravy instead of Hollandaise sauce. Accompanied by hash browns with added green peppers, onions, and American cheese, the dish was tasty, albeit a bit messy due to copious gravy. While the added veggies could have done with more cooking and the cheese more melting, the overall flavor was good.
Service during breakfast was prompt and friendly, despite our waitress being overwhelmed with tables. The value for money was another highlight, with a hearty breakfast for two, including coffee, coming in under $40.
However, my recent carryout lunch experience left much to be desired. I ordered a salad and was quoted a 10-15 minute wait. Upon arrival, about 10 minutes later, I was made to wait an additional 15 minutes, cutting into my lunch break. The salad, when finally received, was shockingly drenched, with what appeared to be several cups of water accumulating in the bag. Luckily, it didn't leak, but it was a gross discovery. The salad itself was just okay, and for $16, I expected a better carryout experience.
In summary, while Michigan City Sugar Bowl offers a satisfying dine-in breakfast experience with good food, friendly service, and great value, their carryout service needs significant improvement. I'll likely stick to dining in at this establishment...
Read moreShout out to brook! We nearly didn't go this morning but we love sugar bowl the food always delivers great quality. But they were super busy today. My wife and I thought we would get stuck in a long line or even with ridiculous wait times and to my surprise the waiters and waitresses were in good spirits moving everything with good time! Brook had checked up on us several times through out our visit but in a way I'd never seen before. She skimmed by all the tables she was responsible for and verbally said out loud to herself if the table was good or if she noticed something starting to run short giving us an opertunity to give a nod or flag her down without having to do the whole "hey is everything ok" exchange. And as soon as she had noticed our drinks were empty or we needed anything at all she was quick to help. I've been to so many restaurants that weren't busy at all and I've been checked on maybe once or twice in a long visit. I was only here maybe an hour this morning and without feeling overburdened was checked on passively plenty of times. I never felt like if I needed something someone wasn't close by to help out! 10/10 experience today. Reasonably short wait for an insanely busy day! Great food! Great service! Prices in today's day in age aren't even bad for quality and quantity of food you get! Can't recommend this place enough! So glad to have you guys locally!...
