El Cantarito MC — Restaurant in Michigan City

Regrettably this place has steadily gotten worse over the last few years. The staff used to be friendly, interactive, enjoyable, helpful, and at the very least acted like they liked being there. That's not the case these days. Wait staff is short and curt. They hardly come to the tables anymore. Good luck getting your table bussed. They just aren't friendly anymore. Last few times at the restaurant the waitresses kept staring giving dirty looks to the females in the group. Made us uncomfortable and question why such hateful behavior would be displayed when we were only dining in the establishment. The restaurant it's self doesn't present with cleanliness anymore either. It smells of food yes, but also mold and sour. Like when you leave sponges or rags soaking wet and they mildew then tried to covor it dumping fabuloso over it. The floor is sticky. Tables, chairs, booths have sticky greasy film. Fabulous doesn't work to clean away grease and grime. Just saying. The murals on the walls hide the filth that is there. The walls are quite covered with food and who knows what else. The music had gotten to be too loud. It's a dining establishment not a discoteca. Then there's the food. We have dined here many times and the last 6 months at least one member of our party ends up sick to their stomach that leads to alot of bathroom time. Improper seasoned, dried out, undercooked. I'd venture to say that the rice and beans are made in large quantities and stored to serve later. Last 2 times the rice tasted of dish soap. The chips are stale and extremely greasy. Not worth eating. It's very sad to see that a local restaurant that started out so good has declined so much. It's no longer our go to. Which has been disappointing for us because our group really did enjoy time spent here and dropped quite a bit of money because we did enjoy it so much. I hope the right person reads this and rectifies...

I have eaten from here several times, however last night was one of the worst experiences ever. Me and husband go for dinner and when the waitress comes over she's talking super fast like she's in a rush, mind you it wasn't that busy. She's very short with us but bring our drinks, then appetizer and then our dinners. However we had no silverware to eat with, we finally get her attention and ask for silverware she says ok walks away goes to the bar then walks right past with silverware in her hand and her face in her phone walks to the front then comes back and puts the silverware on the table and doesn't say anything. She later came and checked on us then asked if we wanted the bill, we said yes, waited about 10 minutes as she never came back to bring us the bill but yet hear her talking to the cooks about taking a shot, she then is going to walk past again and I stopped and asked for the bill again, then she brings it back to us and just puts it on the table and doesn't say anything. I'm sorry but it was just horrible, we have dined in there many times and gotten take out and never ever was the service that horrible. I don't know if they have new management or what because we have never had to deal with that from this place. Even the girl at the front counter is rude and doesn't do her job properly. Ordered take out a couple of weeks ago and was left on hold at first and when I called back it was busy so go in there as it was getting close to closing, waited got home and got no chips for my guacamole and salsa (really?) The service has just gone down really really bad here and it's too bad because we order from them often but unfortunately not anymore. They are rude, have no people skills, and don't want to do their basic job but expect a tip. Sorry but no don't...

My husband and I absolutely love Mexican food and we are very particular about the Mexican food that we eat. We are from Chicago and we have had some of the best Mexican food in this world. But El Cantarito MC is delicious! I absolutely love this place! The menu is diverse and I love their Taco Al Pastor. Several of my husbands coworkers have been telling him to try this restaurant for a long time and finally we did and we are blown away at the service, the prices, and the quality of the food. You get a nice portion of meat in your tacos and your burritos. I have nothing to complain about. The customer service is phenomenal. When I place the order over the phone, the Young lady who answers the phone, is always pleasant and always Helpful. Spanish is not my first language so sometimes when I can’t pronounce a certain item on the menu, she always helps me and she is polite about it. Not one time have they messed up on my order. I won’t name the Mexican restaurant, but they literally forgot half my order and just left it sitting there by the window, when I came back to get it. No I’m sorry, no it’s on the house, nothing. So we left them alone and will be getting our Mexican food from El Cantarito MC. I highly recommend this place. They are also open for dine in but due to the pandemic we are more comfortable eating at home and just going to pick up our call in order. So far we have had their tacos, nachos, and burritos, and they have all been so tasty! I wish we had tried them when they first opened up, but I remember how busy they were (and still are pretty busy all the time) so that lets you know that they have good food and their service is awesome!
