A review from an unhappy 38% tipper.
We were a group of three people and we stopped by for a late lunch Sunday after exploring Bushkill Falls. There was ample parking. We ordered food and service was good. There was even live music which was nice. Then, it was time to pay the bill and if you look at any number of other reviews, I think there’s an undeniable pattern here.
I have to disclose that this was probably my own negligence and for being in a relaxed state after hiking the trails at Bushkill Falls that I didn’t read the menu beyond what I wanted to order, but apparently on the menu it says GRATUITY IS INCLUDED IN ALL BILLS and again when the itemized bill came. I learned all of this from other reviewers on here (thank you!)
So even though the gratuity was 18%, I unknowingly tipped an additional 20% on the credit card receipt because otherwise the overall experience was good. I only discovered about the gratuity after I returned home and immediately called the restaurant to try and make the correction but it was too late as they had just recently closed for the night. However, I did leave a voicemail explaining the situation and asking for a callback but I didn’t receive one the following day.
So on Tuesday I gave them a call again and the cook picked up and it was explained to me that it would be important that I remembered the name of the waitress who served us (which I don’t typically commit to memory) or provided the bill number (which I also did not have since I didn’t think that I would need to). After a quick talk, the cook thought that one of the waitresses who worked that day, Debbie, might be able to help and she would reach out.
On Wednesday, Debbie did reach out and after getting her up to speed, she stated that the manager would be in on Friday and to try again then. Debbie was awesome for taking the time to help.
On Friday, I asked for the manager and was given a man who told me that without the copy of the bill, he would not be able to correct the issue which was disappointing to hear since 1) it’s a computer generated receipt and I am not saying I know how their system works, but most businesses I know of keep transaction records beyond a few days for the purpose of reporting. 2) I did try to correct this issue on the same day that it occurred and it took many days and many phone calls later to conclude in such a way.
So at the end, I was unable to bring down the my ridiculously high 38% Gratuity/Tip to a more reasonable 20%, which again would have still been greater than the set gratuity.
If you have read this far, thank you for your time. I don’t blame the business for wanting to protect itself by setting up a gratuity system especially if they have experienced a lot of non-tippers or under tippers in the past, but what I don’t agree with is when a customer admits to committing an error in good faith and a business is not willing to rectify the issue or offer a solution given their technological capability. If you are reading this there’s a good chance you too fell victim to this, and I feel for you. But ultimately an error is an error, and the error is on me so let this be a warning to all would be customers about how this business handles the issue that they practically set honest, well-intentioned patrons to fall into.
PS: The second star, was for the post-incident assistance from the cook and Debbie, otherwise this would have been a one...

They have free chickens roaming about the patio with the food and customers…interesting. Took forever for someone to ask us for drink orders. We all said water. Took forever to get drinks. They brought us out bottled water and cups of ice…weird. But I thought it was the patio, maybe bc it was the patio, they had to serve water a certain way. Waited another 20 mins for our order to be taken. Waitress couldn’t tell us price of any toppings added to a plain cheese “until they were rang up in the register.” Whatever. Took THIRTY MINUTES for ONE cheese and sausage personal pizza!! While we waited, no one asked if we were still doing ok. My father got bumped into by a waitress, who looked back as she did it so she knew she bumped him. Didn’t acknowledge it at all, just kept walking. Got to hear the waitresses boss the host around saying “we need this and that” very rudely to the point if I were the host, I’d tell them to ask politely and maybe I would help them. The pizza came and omg it was TERRIBLE!!! There was no flavor. No seasoning. And it didn’t even seem done. Wasn’t cut properly so we had to cut it ourselves to get a piece out. The cheese and toppings just fell off the dough as you were picking it up. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. I asked the waitress for the check and was told “I just took your order, I’m not your actual server.” Ok…so where has my “actual server” been for this entire hour then??? She brought me the check bc she “didn’t want me to wait anymore” which was nice. THEY CHARGED ME $2 EACH BOTTLED WATER I DIDNT ASK FOR!!! They add 18% gratuity to every check, but still have an EXTRA tip “suggestion” at the bottom. How many people (tourists/tipsy people) have fallen for THAT trap?! And they had a cash total or a higher credit card total. In my entire life, I have never given exact change as a tip. I literally counted out the exact change for the bill because they had already taken their 18% anyways. I feel that they gave bottled water to jack up the total bill which gives them a higher tip and then they can just provide terrible service and food and there’s nothing you can do about it because it’s already added to your check. I didn’t even try and fight the $6 bottle water charges. I just wanted to escape. Never. Ever. Again. Do yourself a favor, TURN AND...
Read moreIf no stars was an option that would be ideal. From the time to walking in to being sat I knew this was going to be horrible from the start. The greeter/hostess/waitress was snappy from the start. So to you sweetheart, you work in the industry eithier start to love your job or leave it because this job isn't for the hot headed. We were served a basket of end of the bag broken chips as soon as we sat. Fantastic, you are located in the heart of hiking country do not serve end of the bag anything to your guests. One patron at my table ordered 2 different waters both to our disgust had a worm floating in it. I've worked in this industry for 14 years from family owned, chain, dive bars to night clubs. I'm a bartender and server I get it this stuff happens, but as well if it happens once I would inspect the 2nd glass to most def not have a repeat. Fail. It took approx. 45 mins for 2 burgers and a grilled chicken wrap as which I attached a photo of that soup filled pita with soggy lettuce not even the homeless would consume. 3.00 upcharg for French fries, great no problem paying that just make it a hefty portion, not 10. This place has so much potential but in all honesty you need workers that know what they're doing and actually love their job. You need a ton of upgrades inside and out because I'm not even getting into your inhouse that functions as an outhouse bathroom. Your food is mediocre with little to no taste. Get a real chef and not a line cook. Your drink menu needs to be updated and actually delicious. I had the bourbon palmer, disgusting. You want to hand craft cocktails by all means I'll help you because that sad excuse of expired tea and watered down lemonade please just dont. You need bar rescue asap. You're at the end of your season you should have all these bugs worked out by now but you dont. This is my second time I ate here and I'll never be back again unless it changes owners and gets a lift. You want people to pay and come to your diabetes benefit, my God I cant even imagine if you actually seat 10 tables, your staff and kitchen is...
