Taqueria Gonzalez is another fantastic addition to the burgeoning Middleton dining scene. The restaurant / Mexican grocery store combo recently moved into a new storefront in the rejuvenated Middleton Springs mall. After spying numerous favorable reviews, I decided to stop by and satiate my hankering for a carnitas burrito. Unlike most area taco joints, the staff do not assemble your food as you watch. Instead, you place your order, find a place to sit and wait for your food to arrive. The host was incredibly friendly.
After about a ten-minute wait, my ala carte burrito was delivered. Size wise, it wasn’t the biggest burrito I’ve ever been served, but it was hefty enough to keep me from going home hungry. As I used by plastic knife to slice into my burrito, I was impressed by the quantity and quality of the pork filling. The carnitas filling was pure pork perfection - succulent, favorable and fork tender. The flour tortilla was also impressive fresh and tasty. None of the condiments stood out, but they worked together as an ensemble – I just wish they were mixed better. My horchata was solid – no complaints
The dining area is tiny (3 booths, 4 two-tops). While the tables and chairs are a rag tag mix of furniture, the dining area was clean and tidy. The only drawback was that the nearby coolers emitted a loud buzzing noise for the duration of my meal.
I didn’t spend much time perusing the grocery store, which is not large, but tightly packed with produce and pantry items. Like the dining area, the grocery store is clean, well-organized and well lit. The store takes plastic, but has a $10 minimum. And if you are looking for a Wi-Fi signal, you’re out of luck. But you probably won’t care, because you’ll be so focused on their terrific...

Ordered 12 tamales for $20.00 plus tax ok no problem, ordered 12 steak tacos each $3.16 each plus tax, ok no problem. The tacos were the size of street size tacos you know the size of your palm of your hand, the chopped steak pieces were so tiny talk about being thrifty on food portions no flavor for the price you pay 🤨😕not only that , OMG THE TAMALES, are the worse tamales I’ve ate in my entire life, I lived in Chicago, Pueblo Colorado, I never have I ran across tamales being made so badly, dry cornmeal masa filled with tiny shredded meats chicken and or pork absolutely no flavor and the meat inside the tamales is no more than one small teaspoon shredded meat for one bite the rest you are eating plain water flavor steamed cornmeal masa.
That was waste of my money, waste of my trip to the restaurant, if I have lived closer they would have the food back for my full refund. I had to share, I love to leave good reviews but this was gross food I’ve wasted my money on. Pictures are deceiving!
My food experience was horrible being nice didn’t...
Read moreAs a native Southern Californian let me tell you, I know real authentic Mexican food. As soon as I got to Madison I tried all the top spots, then I decided to drive the couple extra minutes out to Middleton to try Taqueria Gonzalez, best decision I’ve made since I got to town back in September, I’ve been coming here at least twice a week since. The tacos are as good or better than any others I’ve had anywhere, the burritos are as big as Popeyes’ forearms (and usually bogo 1/2 price), the torta rolls were always soft and fluffy, and the fried jalapeños and onions are absolutely the best addition to anything on the menu, I squeeze some lime and a dash of salt over mine. I wish this lil family taqueria all the best, always welcoming, always attentive, a spot that I will definitely miss. So if you are reading this review, and you got this far, you owe it to yourself to go and give them a try and enjoy a fabulous flavorful meal. If I am ever back this way this place will be my first stop!!!!! PS, yes that is 4...
