I never thought I'd see the day where I'd ask my husband to take me to the mall on a Saturday night for dinner at the food court! However, after reading reviews for The Lighthouse Jamaican Restaurant, that day arrived! The Lighthouse is the first Jamaican restaurant (that I'm aware of) in my area. There was a bit of a line when we arrived. Two young men were working the counter and the kitchen. Even though they were busy, they took time to answer questions and make suggestions. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Platter with rice & beans and sweet plantains. I was warned that it was a spicy jerk sauce, but I ordered it anyway. Turned out it was a bit spicier than I would typically eat, but it was so good, I couldn't stop! Everything was so flavorful! The sweet plantains helped balance everything out. They were out of seafood dishes, which my husband wanted to order. Since he is a pescatarian, there wasn't a protein he could order, so that was disappointing. We were told seafood does typically run out by 4pm or so. Next time we will have to go for lunch! They also have a "daily specials" menu with African dishes. Honestly, there are so many other dishes I'm excited to try, that making it back for lunch isn't going to be a problem. I think if you give them a try, you too will find yourself excited about going to the mall :)

I’ve been to Jamaica several times, and am in love with the food there. I’ve eaten at many Jamaican restaurants in the states, but this was probably the best jerk chicken I’ve ever had….in Jamaica or anywhere else. Perfectly cooked. The spices were on point. It’s in the food court in a mall, so some people may not think of going there, but PLEASE believe me when I say it’s worth the trip. So good! Irie mon!

I had ONE bite of my food (Brown Stew Chicken) and I was blown away with how much flavor there was! The food is PHENOMENAL and the people working there, especially the lady (wish I caught her name) was absolutely sweet!!! Definitely coming back to try more! Left them a good tip because they deserve that and so much more. Please give them your business because the food is absolutely worth it ❤️

The Lighthouse Jamaican Cuisine: A Beacon of Flavor in a Sea of Mall Food

Let’s be honest: mall food is usually just a necessary evil. It’s designed to fill your stomach with mediocre calories so you can keep spending on things you don’t need. But in the Oxford Valley Mall, a rare gem shines bright—The Lighthouse Jamaican Cuisine.

This isn’t your typical food court fare. This is real food. Jamaican and African dishes that hit your soul as much as they hit your taste buds. Every time I’m in this mall, I make a beeline straight to The Lighthouse. Sure, it’s labeled Jamaican cuisine, but my Liberian sister let me in on the low—they’ve got African food too. And let me tell you, it’s all good. My Ghanaian hubby approved and he's not easily impressed by food because we both cook and know good quality food when we eat it.

If you’re tired of the same greasy, bland offerings at the mall, this place will change your whole outlook. Whether it’s tender oxtails, jerk chicken, or cassava, The Lighthouse is serving up dishes that remind you what food is supposed to taste like. The mall may have a lot of junk, but The Lighthouse? Not junk, just treasure.

Don't take my word. Try it...

I visited this establishment once before and had a great experience with two women who provided excellent customer service. Recently, a Facebook friend of mine shared a picture of the curry shrimp they got on Saturday. Since I live in South Jersey, I decided to stop by after church (10/20/24)to try the curry shrimp myself. However, when I arrived, there were two unmotivated men working that day. I asked for the curry shrimp, and one of them informed me that I needed to call ahead to place an order. When I asked if I could place the order and come back later, the man flatly told me no, that he wasn’t going to make it. I was extremely disappointed. First, I traveled specifically to try this dish. Second, there was no indication that you had to call ahead. And third, if you're advertising a dish, it should be available. In the end, I ended up getting food from one of the other restaurants in the food court.

Regards, a deeply...
