3.5 stars here. hit and miss with the hits being more plentiful. cute spot in an old house. easy to miss. visited for lunch today and they were doing a nice level of business. meats smoked with hickory wood. not really a specific style-KC/Texas/NC-but a NC style vinegar style sauce and a KC style sauce available. using a formula honed over many bbq meals, we chose to share a platter with an added meat option. our platter consisted of 1/2 rack of pork ribs-spareribs i think not baby backs-along with their smashed potatoes and coleslaw plus a piece of cornbread. we chose to add a quarter pound of pulled beef brisket. this last item concerned me a bit as i am a firm lover of Texas brisket-smoked and sliced with a lovely smoke ring. but that's not on the menu here. after a reasonable wait time we were presented a good looking spread of food. the pork ribs had a lovely pink-ish hue and looked very fresh. the smashed potatoes looked a lot like a sour cream based potato salad minus other veggies and tasted similar but very good. not sure about additional spicing but it really was good. the slaw was a vinegar based version rather than the more widely known creamy/mayo based one. not usually a fan but this was better than most. we ate all of this. i am a huge cornbread fan and a tough critic but this was outstanding. fresh, moist with a few bits of corn inside. served with butter and honey as it should be. should have bought a couple more. the ribs were a star here. i was quite impressed. not overdone to hanging off the bone but perfectly timed to have picked up a great level of smoke and a nice firm pull off the bone. interestingly both different sauces-KC & NC-really nicely complimented the meat. unexpected. these ribs would certainly be in the top ten percent of pork ribs i have ever enjoyed. unfortunately the same can't be said for pulled brisket. an unpleasant styro container of mushy sauce drenched protein that was barely recognizable as beef. a couple of bites and we pushed it off. maybe it would be more palatable on a bun with some slaw and more sauce. a bad choice for our preferences. i also chose a slice of pecan pie which was a disappointment as it was a completely different style as expected and had little pecan flavor with a strange-merinque?-topping. so for the most part we did enjoy this meal and the ribs and sides would bring us back again if...
Read moreFirst, this is a converted house tucked a little back, so it looks like a house until you see the parking in back. The dining room is the size of a large living room with 6 tables. You order at the counter. The people are friendly. The food comes out quick. Plenty of parking. The price is reasonable. But...
The food isn’t very good. I measure a BBQ place by the pulled pork. I’ve always been of the mind that if you can’t make pulled pork, then the rest of your BBQ is out of the question. This pulled pork looks like a wet meat patty. It’s already sauced and I swear they cooked a shoulder in a crock pot with store bought sauce. It has that overly sweetness that should never be on meat. The kind of stuff you get in Kraft cheap sauce. The potato salad is bland. Nothing special happening there. But it has those nice red potatoes and the celery is super fresh and crispy which I really love. I’m not even going to get into the corn bread.
If it’s the choice between here or fast food, I would say this is comparable.
This is the stuff you may throw together from the grocery store processed foods for a quick meal. They could probably sell this potato salad at the store. It’s not bad, but it’s not good quality. Which I hate saying, because I want to like this place. Everything is great except the food. That’s why I gave them 3 stars. But I would not...
Read moreYesterday we were having guest I ordered five racks of ribs with side . Coasting close to 200$for the ribs alone. When getting them home we found out that they were dry tasteless and nonedible needless to say all were disappointed. At the time they all got thrown out due to frustration and disappointment. Later realizing I should have brought them back but it was too late . I called Becky’s bbq to explain the whole situation explaining that they were dry etc and I never said they weren’t fresh .. she told me she would talk to the owners and would get back to me . She returned my call today asking me where they were and what was wrong again in a very accusing fashion I explained to her I threw them out she in turn told me that because I didn’t have them there was nothing she would do . Ironically I didn’t want anymore ribs one experience was enough . All restaurants have bad days but the way it was handled was gross . I was hoping for a partial refund i didn’t want all of the money back . I write this as a warning if you chose to eat at eating at Becky’s bbq and your not satisfied bring it back !and for any response that Becky’s bbq has for this review, I didn’t just write this to waste my time I have been in the restaurant business...
