We are frequent to middletown and the newport area. We always have made it a desirable stop at the blue plate to dine a few times each year. In june we stopped and noticed the food tasted different, menu cut short, and the servers were declining in service. We shrugged it off as a off visit. Now in August we made an attempt to try again. We walked in and it was like time froze and i felt this erie vibe like everyone in the restaurant was aggravated. We soon found out why. Our server came over and immediately gave us a i dont care look and attitude. We ordered a couple cokes and she rolled her eyes and took off. I was starti g to feel weird about the whole situation. I heard a couple sitting in front of us complaining. Then the woman of the couple said i had enough and walked out and left her husband sitting there alone. Red flag::: i knew now we were in trouble. Waitress brings our cokes back, aggressively slams them almost spilling them on table and walks away? i took a sip, they were grossly flat and tasted like old old coke yuck!!, i called her over and asked for something else. What does she do she brings back two more cokes that are flat and horrible! Thats when i had to let her know , we stated we did not want or request flat and gross cokes again we asked for orange . She brings them back and says is that better? I explained that nobody would drink what she brought tasting that way. The dinner continued to be horrendous. Our food was in edible. We talked to a gentleman that said he would inform the owner and agreed her service and the food looked horrible. My kids fires were drenched in oil and so burnt they were dark brown yuck! My wife wouldnt even touch her greek chicken, looked disgusting. Overall looks like no effort or fresh products or ingredients are being pumped back into restaurant so the service and food has become barely edible and atrocious servers. What happened blue plate????? We are all done , no more, we will go elsewhere, my kids looked at me like why are we here , they didnt dig in like they normally do. We left the food barely touched , paid and went back to our hotel amd...
Read moreI have never been here before. I walked in and the chef was talking to a couple people and everyone was smiling. Chefs are so busy for him to step out of the kitchen and take time to say hello to customers I am blown away. The gentleman who was talking to the chef and walked away I said "well this is my first time here and now I'm confident in my choice!!!" At this point I know the food is good already because clearly they have regulars. I get checked out im asked if I need anything condiments, a coffee anything at all? I asked for a water they couldn't have been more pleasant getting it. Honestly I think my biggest thing in the restaurant industry is courtesy and respect which clearly every employee had for eachother and customers.
I order an omlette, home fries and a bagel. The lady on the phone asked what type of bagel and if I'd like it toasted or grilled. I left that up to her and was not disappointed by the outcome! Best toasted bagel everr! The omlette was phenomenal!!!!! Hands down one of the best. I typically need to add a bit of salt to my omlettes. This one was bursting with all the right flavors I didn't even need it! So so good. I typically prefer my home fries crisper but I went in with an open mind. GLAD I DID!!! home fries were a home run!!!
I did not dine in but when I was in there I looked around at surroundings. It's a diner you could go to everyday and never get tired of. It was roomy and a relaxing vibe which is exactly what you want when unwinding and enjoying a meal out.
Let's talk prices. You cannot beat the prices!!! I was actually shocked at how cost efficient it was and checked my receipt in the car to be sure they charged me for the correct food.
I cant wait to try other things from blue plate. Thank you for making my Friday wonderful right off the bat!!! Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for giving my taste buds everything I could of dreamed of...

Went in for a early lunch/late breakfast to meet up with some colleagues. I arrived first, when I walked in nobody was at the hostess stand/counter so I assumed it was seat yourself. As I went to seat myself in an empty booth, I was stopped by a waitress who asked if I was alone or with a group. I informed that it was a group, and I was only the first to arrive but the others were a few minutes behind. . When she asked how many I said I wasn’t certain but likely just a few. At this point, instead of being offered a booth seat I was directed to wait at the counter until “you know how many”. This seemed unnecessary given that the diner was nearly empty, but fine. I sat at the counter and promptly confirmed that there would be 3 of us total. I informed the same waitress our group was a group of 3, expecting then to be brought to a booth. But nope, I was told again bluntly, “you can wait at the counter until they arrive”. Surprised again at the now rude waitress and not wanting to cause a scene, I remained at my seat. At this point I only remained to see if the waitress could be bothered to offer me coffee or maybe a menu. Now unsurprised, I was not offered anything as a sat there watching the waitress play on her phone.
My colleagues showed up five minutes later and then we were shown to a table. The food was certainly alright. No complaints about the food. Slightly Newport priced for ok food but well within...
