Gansett Wraps — Restaurant in Middletown

I was glad to see a place like this open up. A healthier alternative to the abundance of fast food on this island. The employees were off putting and seemed untrained. Lots of people were waiting while many employees were chatting and texting while only one person seemed to be making the orders. In fact as I was being rung up (and not acknowledged) the cashier was hugging and puffing band started to ask a question and mid sentence walked away—because she was texting while ringing me up! Its as though having a customer was an inconvenience, interrupting her chat. Manager needs to tell them to put their phones down. Staff looked bored and depressed. The food is typical “Mediterranean” style—falafel, grilled chicken, hummus, marinated veggies, grape leaves, pita. The vibe just sort of killed it for me with the staff but otherwise it is clean. This place actually impacted my cooking trajectory. I used to go here multiple times a week for years when I worked and lived down the street. Even when I moved away, I still came in multiple times a month when visiting family. Then last year (I want to say I noticed the upcharge around August 2024) they implemented a higher upcharge for gluten free wraps than the previous. That day I said to the employee that I needed to start cooking more at home. So I actually did start! Since then I've only been back twice when I was in dire hungry straits. Do I miss it? Sure. But I don't think that much of an upcharge for gluten free wraps made it worth it for me anymore especially as a regular of multiple years. This is the spot for a wrap. The bread they use is pretty awesome, a little on the thicker side so it doesn't get so soggy the contents spill out (my experience at other places.) I like to have healthy choices and there's no shortage of them here. My only criticism is they don't have a smaller option. The chicken Caesar wrap is really at least 2 wraps in one. It's huge and well stuffed, but i can't take away a star for giving out more food. Otherwise just quality ingredients all around. The staff is really friendly and they work fast.
