Tonight, we went to a Japanese restaurant because it had a high rating. The waitress serving us was Chinese and asked us if we were Chinese at the beginning. We said yes and she became very enthusiastic to let us ordered a sushi boat (there were five of us, all girls). First, this sushi boat was not recommended on Google Maps. Second, it was the most expensive item on the menu (180 dollars). We said we would just take a look at it and didn't consider it later, and ordered other dishes.
From then on, every time she served dishes, the people at the table would say "thank you", but the Chinese waitress didn't respond. I thought that was just her way. But when she served other tables, I found her very nice and always replied.
We were all full, but she still asked if we wanted to order more. We said no. Before the bill was settled, she even asked if we wanted to have dessert.
What was even more ridiculous later on was that she asked us if it was our first time here, and then said, "Well, I need to tell you that in the US, tipping is expected."
I don’t think that Chinese lady is worth to tips, tips are gave to the people who is in good serving. And when someone was full enough, stop asking her to order sth cuz you just want to earn more tips from the total . It’s RUDE.
At last, I want to say to the lady:You may earn your tips, but I am so shame on you especially we all Chinese😊

Read moreWe made a reservation for 6:30pm and it was ignored. The hostess said so many people came in and took all the booths. Well that's why we made a reservation but this didn't seem to matter. They sat us by the front door and we waited 20 minutes for the server. They never came so we asked to move to another table and begrudgingly they allowed us. After another 10 minutes a server acknowledged us but still didn't make it over for yet another 5 minutes. She apologized for being busy and told us it was unfortunate that we moved tables so that didn't help the timing. I fail to see the point.
We ordered, finally, and the food was good. She checked in with us once and then that was the last we saw of her. We tried to flag her down to order another roll but that was difficult. Finally, were successful but the roll took another 15 minutes or so to come to our table after she carried the roll around to complete our check, refill the printer and chat with another party that was leaving all the while holding our salmon avocado roll! I asked her to bring it over soon but she made me wait because she wanted to bring the check and the roll over together despite the fact the roll was ready. She was either inexperienced or was just giving us a hard time.

Read moreMy husband and I stopped in after the polar plunge in search of a hot broth filled meal, so naturally we wanted ramen. We are locals, but I our usual spots were closed New Year’s Day, so I googled ramen near me right before I hit the Newport Bridge and found this gem, and it did not disappoint. In fact, it was the best Japanese meal I have had in some time! We ordered the octopus balls, spicy tuna roll, sweet potato roll, seafood ramen and beef ramen. The appetizers were out of this world good. The fish was flavor filled, like it had been marinated. Even the sweet potato roll was perfectly fired to tenderize the potato with a crispy edge. We don’t really need soy sauce to add flavor. Even the ginger was fresh! We were given extra fine cut salmon sashimi to try, compliments to the chef! The ramen was unique, well presented and back with authentic flavors. Our waiter was very kind and on it and the entire staff was friendly! We loved it here and will absolutely be...
