This was first time visiting Vicky's, in Middletown, DE. We got there right at opening, like 11:05 am. The prices are decent, but everything else was not. The lady that took our order seemed like she didn't want to be there. She left shortly after ringing us up. We went to sit down to wait for our food. We add 2 options: 1 -a rusted iron wrought outdoor table placed right at the door or 2- a long dusty bench that had about 2 layers of dust on it. The entire length of the bench was dusty. The floors looked they hadn't been swept in a long time. There were layers of dust everywhere. The longer we sat there the more we contemplated canceling the order, but we were called to the counter to pick it up before we could cancel. So, we decided to give it a try. The flounder was cooked in some type of panko type breading and had an after taste. Not good. My friend looked in her bag and noticed that the collards that she ordered were missing. She went to the counter to tell the lady, not the same one that took the order, and she looked up the order and said that we only ordered yams. We tell her that that is incorrect. She reads the order back. According to her we only ordered yams, 2 orders of flounder and 2 sodas. We actually only ordered 1 soda. We tell the lady just that. She picks up the phone and apparently called the lady that took our order. Tells her what we are saying about our order and then hangs up and repeat the order again At this point we gave up trying to get the correct order. Neither lady acknowledged that a mistake was made on their behalf or offered to get the order corrected. She just walked away. I don't understand why it's so hard for us to exercise customer service skills and to not always display a noncaring attitude almost every time we are at work. We tried to be supportive by giving this black owned business a try. But the first experience was horrible and it will be the last. The whole vibe was off and unwelcoming. And did I mention that we had to fight the flies and gnats over our food! We looked in the back and the back door to the kitchen/restaurant was open. I started to walk to the bathroom, then thought better of it. Totally disappointed. My friend drove all the way from Milford to give this place a try.
Update: Thank you for responding to the review. However, you were nit being truthful in your response nor did read the review thoroughly, but it's okay that seems to be a norm these days. I never questioned the math. We just wanted what we ordered and had bo issue paying for it. When we inquired about the missing collards. You then read the order back. No copy of the order was given to us. You didn't ask if you could ring us up for them. You didn't take off the extra soda that we didn't order. You just walked away without offering a solution. Even now you haven't offered an apology. But it is okay because I have no more energy designated for you and your establishment. Just go ahead and be you and maybe clean every now and then. Have an amazing day and keep...
Read moreThis place is definitely a family owned mom and pop place, and that's a good thing because we were looking for a hole in the wall place to eat. So we got the Whiting with 3 shrimp, the jumbo soft shell crab sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo, the crab cake, and the baked mac and cheese, oh and 3 cans of soda. All total about $35, so not too bad. The food was decent with generous portions, no real complaints. The issue I have was the service.
There's like 2 people that work there, there was 4 people getting food, we were told our wait would be 20 minutes or so. It ended up taking like 40 or more. Also, the dude behind the counter taking the order isn't the best for customer service. Nice guy but there was a lady sitting literally in front of the restaurant in her car that was disabled, and I guess he had went out to her before and taken her money and brought her food out, but for whatever reason he couldn't do that today. A nice lady in front of us ended up taking her order and bringing the money in and giving it to him, and he told that lady she would have to wait around to take the disabled ladies food out to her. Keep in mind this good samaritan was a random customer. So he wasn't mean or nasty just not very customer service oriented.
Plus this isn't really a go sit down restaurant, more of a pick up and leave kinda place. If you live close and you don't mind waiting the food is decent and affordable if you have a craving for fried fish. We were looking for an awesome hole in the wall place to eat while traveling from philly to va and we ended up wishing we had eaten somewhere else. Again though, decent for the money if you're local, and don't...
Read moreFish can’t be beat soooo tasty, customer service stinks!! I placed my order with the man who usually takes the orders. When he announced ticket, Vicky came out to take the ticket and I thought she was working solo in the back. I sat on the side at a table waiting for my food and shewing flies for thirty-five minutes, I patiently waited that long because I thought Vicky was working by herself. When I approached the man about my order he said “it’s right here” and pointed to a bag on the counter. He then looked at my ticket and said “you have the wrong ticket.” He stated a couple times that I had the wrong ticket even attempted to show me the order that matched the ticket, he gave me. I told him that he gave me the ticket.... not once did he take ownership of his mistake. He talked to me like it was my fault that my fish was now cold!!! Vicky is a kind spirit, hard working lady, the guy taking the order does not add to the business. I wanted to give 0 stars but Vicky is too nice and such a great cook.....Sorry Vicky to write this but I know other stories about the man’s customer service! Saying have a “blessed day” means nothing when...
