Update... New location but again, won't be coming back. Didn't order any food, we came on a Wednesday night after Christmas so not too busy. We ordered (between the three of us, wine, cosmopolitan from the cocktail menu and iced tea. No discussion from the server on any of these (keep that in mind). Cosmo was good, my sister ordered a different wine (didn't care for the first one) and I ordered another Cosmo. Server brought us two glasses of wine and no Cosmo. We pointed out the error to the server and she apologized and said she thought we both wanted the wine... nope but please make it right. She left the second glass of wine on the table and returned with my Cosmo. In the meantime she was pretty good about making sure hubby's tea was filled.
When she gave us the bill we had a few questions....the cocktail menu on the table listed the Cosmo for $6.50 (so $13 for 2) yet the bill listed Tito's vodka $10 and Cosmo $4 ($14 total) now I'm not one to really quibble about $1 but she also left the third glass of wine on the bill (that she brought by mistake). When we asked for an explanation we were told the server thought I had asked for Tito's vodka when I had clearly pointed at the menu and no discussion on what vodka I wanted. They removed the glass of wine from the bill, after the server took the actual glass of wine to the bar and dumped it out (did they need proof that we didn't drink it?) Then they did adjust the bill for the "misunderstanding" of the Cosmo. Ok, all is well but then the owner comes out to explain some more. We tell her it's settled, we paid the bill thank you. But she insisted on returning the $1 to us (we told her the bill had already been adjusted but she wasn't really listening, just seemed she wanted to "make it right").
I won't be coming back to this location either. I just felt they were trying to pull one over on us and if we had not looked at the bill we would have paid for an extra glass of wine we didn't order and overcharged on two drinks.
So my previous review stands with nothing better to report unfortunately. Ok, maybe one thing better, the noise level was such that we could actually have a conversation. END UPDATE
For sure nothing special, it's a bar. Food was ok, good but again nothing special. Service could have been better but it was only her second week so I give her a pass 🙂.
It got pretty loud making it very difficult to have a decent conversation.
Sampler platter was good, no substitutions though. Olly burger wasn't very seasoned with their "secret seasoning" so it could have been a plain burger in my opinion. Olly fries were ok but again more seasoning would have been tastier.
Won't come again but basically because of the noise,...
Read moreI have changed my review from two stars to four. I couldn't leave a negative review holly and Derek and the new bartender and just simply amazing people the food is always amazing and I love love love this place however that man is still works ng there and must just have a personal thing against me so I feel I must leave my previous experience to forward other people. However I MUST stress that I would recommend this place to any and everyone just watch out for the long haired waiter
Let me start out by saying I love diamond Jim's. It is our favorite place. It's were we go to be happy when we are having a hard time. Today I took my family there and left crying. There is a waiter there. Tall with blonde hair in a pony tail who literally made me ball my eyes out. They were having a hard day. I totally understand that and was being very understanding. After waiting an hour for our menus and drinks our I watched our waiter grab menus from the table next to them and I tried asking if we could see menus while we were waiting on the drinks and he ignored me. Still unperturbed I thought I could help and walked up to him and politely asked if I could look at a menu while waiting for our drinks. He basically threw them at me and told me that they don't make the drink I asked for. I explained that I have gotten that drink everytime I have came there and he got very pissed off and told me too bad there is a new bartender and he wasn't going to order the drink for me. (I walked up to te bartender and explained my situation and she was amazingly sweet and kind and made it with no problem she also ended up holding my hand while I cried saying she was so sorry he was acting like that) I even asked Derek who has always provided exceptional service and has always been very professional and kind if he could wait on us because the other man was being so horrible and he almost yelled at me. I couldn't believe it. I understand it was hard day. I could never work customer service but I was being very patient and understanding and to be treated like that shocked me so much. We paid the bartender for our drinks and left. I really want to come back because I do love diamond Jim's but I have ptsd and severe social anxiety and I'm scared of getting treated...
Read moreAt the corner of Ashman and Main in Beautiful Downtown Midland, Diamond Jim's is a nice stop.
Frankly (and sadly) for some reason, I anticipated a snooty, hipster bar with over-priced, miniscule appetizers served by people with beards just a little too long. Nothing could be further from the truth. Diamond Jim's is a nice, friendly, dare I say(?) homey bar & grill. (And hardly any of the servers had beards. Just kidding. None of them did. They were all very nice and will undoubtedly remind you of your favorite niece. Not that there's anything wrong with beards.)
The décor is eclectic but cool. Drooping clocks, purple walls and unique artwork, it's pretty dang groovy. The chairs were comfortable, the bathrooms clean and well maintained. All to the good.
The menu, while not outstanding, has a good variety with reasonable prices and you can't go wrong with that. Ever. No, really.
The staff was attentive, prompt and we never had to wait for drink or food service. (Which always makes for a good tip.)
While there, I couldn't help noticing that a lot of folks seemed to be regulars. The bartenders knew them, they all knew each other. Rather than feeling left out, or unwelcome, it just contributed to the friendly, "Cheers" atmosphere of the place.
All things considered, Diamond Jim's was a pleasant surprise and I will most...
