4 words ... Chili Rellenos Pecans Raisins. These Chili Rellenos are the best I've ever had in my 53 years of life, and not only in Texas, but the United States. We 2001, we volunteered to have a woman, her sister and 3 month old baby stay at our house when 911 occurred due to all planes being grounded and they weren't able to continue the rest of leg of there flight to Mexico. It was very hard to communicate because my wife at the time, and myself didn't speak Spanish. However, we did understand enough that she wanted to cook for us, and offered to make us true authentic Chili Rellenos. We had a Mexican market by us, as well as a major chain supermarket and we bought everything she needed At that time, she cooked the best Chili Rellenos I ever had until we went to La Bodega. My current wife lived in Midland growing up, and some into her adult year's, she said (knowing that I LOVE Chili Rellenos) La Bodega had the best Chili Rellenos ever, and that was not a lie. Now anytime we go to Midland and we arrive noon, or night, it's the first stop even before checking into the hotel. The main reason I LOVE them so much are the addition of pecans and raisins. You wouldn't think those 2 items would make a HUGE difference, but they ABSOLUTELY do, and that is what makes there Chili Rellenos the best I ever had (in my opinion). Also, the portion size is huge. I always order the full portion, and only eat half and take the rest back to the hotel. They do offer half portions, but I always want leftovers for later in the evening, or early morning while I'm up watching television. Just can't get enough. Try them and you definitely won't be disappointed.
As a side note, there chips and salsa are also great. Just pace yourself in those if you don't want to be uncomfortable before getting your...
Read moreIf there was a star lower than 1 star, this restaurant would be rated that. The past couple of times I've had dinner/drinks here, the management/service was below average. With the exception of 1 waitress, every cleaning/serving staff member was lower than competent. Not to mention, the most current management is a joke. Don't even think about ordering a patron margarita because they will charge you DOUBLE. We received our drinks (water and alcohol drinks) after 20-30 minutes of sitting at the table. We were asked our meal order after 30 min of waiting. We were given a ridiculously priced check at the end of dinner for 4 drinks (almost $100) and were given a rude rationale by the owner. Mind you, we are in our mid-20's, however; after the few times we ate/drank here and were ID carded 10 minutes after being served our alcoholic beverages - which not only is awkward, but EMBARRASSING. We will NEVER visit again. This restaurant, with the except of one middle-aged blonde waitress, is UNPROFESSIONAL, INCOMPETENT, and INCONSIDERATE. The owner then said "know your prices before you order" and handed us our receipt. I have been to 4 and 5 star restaurants all over the world and never have I been so disrespected by this lower than average establishment. Trust me, you'll have better service/drink prices at On the Border or Dos Margaritas in...
Read moreIt was hard to decide between 3 and 4 stars. I went with 4 because I know reviews can greatly determine whether someone will even try a place and i think this place is worth trying. First things first, the curb appeal of this place might scare you away, but try it anyway. The hostess staff are always very friendly and happy to see you, and we've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for a table, if at all. I recommend waiting for a table in the main dining room, as opposed to the atrium as we have found the service in the atrium to lack greatly- as in waiting 20 minutes for water or employees flat out ignoring you when speaking to them. Going to keep eating here occassionally because i realize there is a chance the employee didn't speak English, but ignoring a paying customer is DEFINITELY NOT the appropriate way to handle it. The food is consistently good and they have a nice selection of cocktails and desserts. The prices are not unreasonable. On our last visit, the food was nothing short of spectacular, which made up for the really bad atrium service. Overall my biggest complaint of this place is that smoking is allowed upstairs, but it isnt entirely closed off from the first floor or adequately ventilated because you get occassional wafts of smoke while eating and it is very...
