I'm a pretty big fan of Thai food so am always excited for a new place. That said, there are a few things that could be improved here.
The pad see ew was delicious! Would definitely order if I went back. The yellow curry was not the best. Spicy even at the nonspice level, with a pretty bland flavor balance. Another dash of fish sauce and palm sugar was needed for sure. It would be great to have fish sauce available as a condiment for the tables. The carrots in the curry were cut quite large and were basically raw and crunchy. That was very unpleasant. The potatoes were cooked fine, so not sure what happened. All the food is served in Styrofoam containers with plastic ware. This feels pretty aggressively wasteful since neither are recyclable or compostable. Not to mention the struggle of eating hot curry with a tiny plastic spoon is totally ridiculous. If I'm paying $50 for two entrees and a kids meal, I want a real spoon with my hot liquid entree. Rice portion was small and ran out before the curry. The kids meal was overpriced ($7 for nuggets and fries in a small container) and did not come with a drink. The chicken nugget meal was the fake spongey mcDs style nuggets. Seems strange when they already have a dish that utilizes breaded chicken chunks to not just use that. Thai tea for $6 is high. I was disappointed overall, especially at that price point for counter service, but may give a few more...
Read moreWe came during their grand opening. Even as busy as they were, the food came out in a timely manner. It was hot, and freshly cooked! The staff was extremely polite. One guy was walking by to give another table their food, and over heard us saying we needed to get another empty plate to share our food. Just a my daughter went to get up, he asked if that's what she was doing, and he offered to go get it for her so she could continue to eat. A lot of places, the servers or employees tend to stay to themselves unless you speak to them.
The restaurant was very clean. Especially with as crowded as it was in there for the grand opening.
We did the sample appetizer. Their golden pouch (crab rangoo) was AMAZING! Their egg rolls (spring rolls with vegetables no meat) was delicious. It also came with wings. They looked really good, but I was too full to try one. My husband said they were good. I got the orange chicken with fried rice. I did feel like the rice needed a little more egg and soy sauce (but that's a preference thing in my opinion). My daughter got low mein and added shrimp. She tore it up. My husband got the drunken fried rice. He said it was good and flavorful. You go in, order at the counter, and they bring you your food when it's ready. It's slightly different than what we were used to at the Mansfield location, but...
Read moreI was thoroughly impressed with Blue Mint Thai when they catered my 50th Birthday Bash last summer from their original Debbie Lane location — the food and service were both phenomenal!
Naturally, I was hoping their new Midlothian location would deliver the same excellence, and let me tell you… they did NOT disappoint! The Drunken Crazy Noodles were every bit as flavorful and satisfying as I remembered, and the steamed dumplings were perfection. I love the location and the seating along the wall that always you to see out onto the grass covered, picnic-style seating area. And Trish’s warm and welcoming service was the icing on the cake.
When a restaurant can maintain that same top-notch quality across locations — delicious food, great presentation, and attentive service — you know they’ve got the right formula. Blue Mint Thai continues to impress, and I’m so glad to have another location...
