Updated response to the owner: Thank you for pointing out my recent reviews lacking positive feedback. I had to double check to make sure I left a positive one for La Hacienda for their positively wonderful flautas that I would recommend anyone here try out if you're in the mood for something really tasty. I already had, thank goodness, because I want everyone to visit them so they stick around a good long while.
Su Casa should be proud of your in-house salsa. Not many restaurants can just mix ketchup and tabasco together and call it salsa with a completely straight face. I applaud your courage.
In your own words, "Taco Salads are not a great judgement of a restaurant..." Then don't serve it. Serving up a bad plate and then saying it doesn't represent your kitchen means you don't believe in what you sell. Also, if it's so easy, then you should know how to make it properly.
I can, and do, easily get burritos, tacos, and most Mexican fare from anywhere. Yours just happens to be almost as lazy as your research on my reviews, because I make sure to keep a good balance overall. Unlike your dollar store chips that you made from an open bag "in-house".
Original review:
I came here because of all the great reviews, and to be honest, I don't get the hype. Ordered the flauta plate and the taco salad. The chips and salsa they gave was bad. The chips tasted store bought (a theme throughout the whole meal) and the salsa was a mix of ketchup and Valentina hot sauce. I have a forgiving palette, but even that was too much of a disappointment for me.
Then came the taco salad and the flauta plates. The portions were more than generous...and that's where all the good comments end.
I ordered the flauta plate. I expected the regular size/amount of flautas which is usually 4 slightly-bigger-than-taquito sized tortillas rolled and fried. Nope. I got essentially a family sized chimichanga.
The cheese tasted bagged and the melting patterns on the cheese agree with that guess.
The sauce was so obviously bottled (flat, with no other flavors other than mildly like vinegar) that I'm surprised they didn't just put it on the table like steak sauce.
The entire plate lacked salt or any other seasoning or spice. The taco salad was much the same.
The beans looked like it came from a can like everything else. All in all for $15 a plate, this was a disappointment. Lazy cooking...
Read moreMy recent visit to Su Casa was disappointing, though the atmosphere was pleasant. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday, but unfortunately, the food and service didn’t live up to expectations.
Food: I ordered the Flauta, which was supposed to have chile verde, but I received a red sauce instead—something I’ve seen mentioned in other reviews. The sauce was bland, lacking spice, and there was hardly any pork. The dish came with beans topped with cheese and Spanish rice, but overall, it wasn’t very tasty.
The flauta was topped with a green sauce that was supposed to be tomatillo sauce, but it tasted more like an overpowering lime sauce. It was so tart that I couldn’t help but make a bitter face with every bite.
One of my friends ordered the Nachos Supreme, but was served the appetizer portion instead of the entrée. Even after questioning the waitress, she insisted it was correct, and it wasn’t until my friend spoke with the manager that the mistake was fixed.
The birthday girl ordered a chimichanga and specifically asked for no cheese or sour cream, as she is lactose intolerant. While they didn’t put cheese or sour cream on the chimichanga, they still added cheese to the beans that came with it, which was frustrating and could have caused issues for her.
Service: The service was subpar. Our waitress was dismissive and unhelpful, especially with the mistakes in our orders. It took escalating the issue to the manager to get the nachos corrected. Despite the experience, I still paid in full and left a 20% tip because I didn’t want to give the impression that I was trying to get a free meal.
Ambiance: The one thing Su Casa got right was the atmosphere. The restaurant has a warm, inviting feel with vibrant, authentic décor. It’s a cozy spot to spend time with friends, and the ambiance made the evening more bearable despite the issues with food and service.
Price: The pricing felt high for the quality of food and the level of service we received. I’ve had better meals for less at other Mexican restaurants.
While the birthday girl enjoyed her meal overall, the experience at Su Casa was disappointing. I hope they can improve both the food and the service in the future because, for now, the ambiance alone isn’t enough to...
Read moreI didn't want to leave a bad review because our server was incredible!! But the food..really??!! My Mom and Aunt liked their food, not sure if they were just being nice? My food however... DISGUSTING!! I would leave that out for the racoons in my backyard, because my trash is better than this! I got the mahi tacos with black beans and rice. When I received my food, I ended up with refried beans. No big deal, I like both. The rice..old, stale, zero flavor..it needed salt and pepper. My tacos.. before I even touched them.. I could tell that the mahi had been seasoned, steamed, and reheated at least once. The fish tasted fishy, the bad fishy.. there was one tiny dollop of their Baja sauce on each taco, I had to look for it. Bagged salad mix on the tacos. I also got a side of sour cream and guacamole. So..I gave it a bite. 🤮🤢🤢🤢🤮 These tacos were SO bad. I didn't want to complain about the food. But, I asked the server to find out when the fish was cooked. His first response was "you're not the first person to have an issue with the fish tacos today". There were like 10 other people there, and it was just before 1pm. When the server came back, he said the fish was cooked on Saturday!! Hello, it's Monday lunch!!!! How long does it take to cook mahi mahi?? I know the answer! And now I know why it was so disgusting! It was also probably microwaved. I also got some food to go, (as my husband and I are renovating our house and my range is disconnected at the moment and everything in the kitchen covered and ready for paint ).. the tacos were removed from my bill. And looking at my to go order, the two 4oz sides of very bland guacamole were almost $11! Needless to say, I will never go back, EVER! My take out order was better, but, just ok..the sweet pork tasted good.. but, when was it cooked? I dunno.. apparently there are no standards in that kitchen. If you go...don't order the mahi tacos! And bring extra...
