Beautiful store, mediocre pastries.
Walking in, the store was very beautiful, the pastries were presented very attractively, the staff were fine. I wish I could say more positive things.
However.
We asked to have the croquette warmed. It was so saturated with oil, there was no way to hold it without it breaking apart into mush. Completely inedible.
Chocolate hazelnut croissant: NOT fresh baked. There is no crunch, there is no beautiful texture, the layers are collapsed and wet on the inside. Even a baked-from-frozen croissant would be crispy and have flaky layers - I really don't know what they did to this poor croissant.
The blueberry cream cheese danish was okay, but tasted of canned blueberry pie filling. Very pretty, but so boring to eat.
The honeydew melon cloud bread: very strong taste of melon flavor, with something like a Swiss meringue buttercream inside. Underneath the artificial honeydew taste was an undercurrent of something off. Certainly not fresh.
The yuzu pastry was horrible. It tasted almost maliciously bland.
The custard bun was responsible for an entire star of this rating. The filling tasted of actual pastry cream, not the whipped butter that fills so many other pastries in this shop.
We did not try any of the refrigerated pastries. The prices were quite exorbitant, and the quality of the rest of the fare did not inspire confidence. Overall, this seems like a fast-food bastardization of a patisserie. I cannot find it in my heart to offer up a single reason to entice anyone else to visit, except perhaps as the superficial backdrop to...
Read moreI was so happy to finally have a Korean bakery in UT! However, I'm disappointed by my experiences there and they continue to fall short of expectations based on other Tous Les Jours I've visited.
The Cloud Cream Cake was not fresh and the fruit was bad, practically rotten. I asked for a new cake before leaving and they did exchange it, no questions asked, but this one also had days old fruit. I've had 2 other cakes here WITHOUT fruit and those seem to be better but still not fresh.
The buttercream bread, custard buns, and red bean buns DO NOT have enough filling in them. It has maybe, if they are being generous, half the amount that other Tous Les Jours and similar Korean bakeries put in their pastries. Nobody wants to eat half their bun before they get to the filling!
They seem to have a lot of issues with inventory. A lot of items are not regularly available and there are always bare shelves no matter what day of the week or time of day I visit. Take a look at some of the other reviewers photos and you'll see what I mean.
The staff are generally friendly but not very knowledgeable when asked about ingredients or when an item might be available. They really only act as cashiers at this location.
Unfortunately, without competition, the bakery won't be forced to raise their standards and meet customer demands. However, with the opening of H Mart (Hanareum Korean Mart) before the end of the year in South Jordan, they may have to rethink their business operations. I sincerely hope the next time I visit Tous Les Jour it will be...
Read moreI was so excited to see this cafe when I drove by it before it actually opened. I have been to Tous Les Jours bakeries in South Korea and this is my first experience at one stateside. It is beautiful inside and I love the atmosphere. One of the times that I went in to have coffee with a friend, I heard multiple languages being spoken in this place. There were Eastern European people speaking in their mother tongue, and then there was a group of older Korean men conversing, and then there were also a group of teenagers that came in later. I just love to see so many different types of people in one place. It was busy for a Friday at 10:30 a.m.
If you have never been to an Asian bakery, you will be surprised at the subtle sweetness that you find in their baked goods. It's not overly sugary, nor rich or heavy in flavor as American baked goods. They have a wide variety of sweet and savory baked goods to choose from as well as a coffee menu with some milk teas. It is a bit pricey, but not more pricey than ordering food at Starbucks. I recommend their cloud cakes. You can buy them by the slice or a whole cake. They are beautifully designed.
How to order food? When you walk in, you will see trays, tongs, and parchment paper. Pick up a tray and tongs and lay a sheet of parchment paper on the tray. Then browse and choose the baked goods you want and place them on your tray. When you go up they will package them to go or you can take them as is, if you are dining in. Another thing you can admire is Korean packaging. They use high...
