1.5/5 stars. The intent was to give 3/5 stars but I am still uncomfortable 😣 even giving 2/5.
Let's dig in.
We went to Island Quizine to dine in. We did not realize that they separated that order section and no longer had the cozy eat in section. So they sent us over, to literally the next door over. When we stepped in and realized that this was a Bar vibe (all BLACK)...it did Not give a Grill vibe.
It seems the staff were mostly in the next section with the barn doors having a STAFF MEETING with the door open, which is a NO NO because that takes away from the ambiance. Furthermore, the staff was going back and forth with their kids and carrying on conversations. (No issues with kids, but understand what customers expect from this setting).
The hostess came out, pleasant, and greeted us to seat us. The tables are tiny and the patron beside us started to COMPLAIN that her meal was not going to fit 😭. They ordered finger foods, we ordered a meal so you know we struggled on those TINY TABLES as well. Also that should have indicated that the EXPENSIVE servings were gonna be tiny as well. The only big thing we got was the BIG FISH, 🐟. But that too was a RUBBERY disappointment. We will get to that in a bit.
While the staff was in a meeting I decided to cut to the chase and asked the hostess please can we get bowls of soup while we wait on the waitress who they said would come in 3 MINUTES. Being very hungry and a DIABETIC not only did the order NOT go in, but we had to wait about 15-20 minutes including for the waitress to come and take the order again for the soup.
Then the big bowls 🥣 came only to contain about HALF cup of soup 🍲😔. Ok, let's see what happens to main course. The soup was the ONLY tasty thing that night.MAGGI..wont disappoint with it's saltiness 😁. When our meals came, the fish was STIFF, DEAD and DRY on the plate, when we specifically requested that we did not want a DRY FISH and the waitress had convinced us to take an escovitch over STEAM OR STEW 🍲 fish. Next we got a tiny cup 🍵 of rice 😭😞. Dry, no gravy or sauce in sight. I requested a stew fish gravy or something to at least moisten di food. Ahh that's a NO! 😭
**OK, let's try this pasta 🍝. pasta was bland. Whatever was used killed every flavour so though edible, it was anticlimactic for a Chicken & Shrimp Reggae Pasta.
**The cup of rice and peas was insulting. Especially for the cost. We didn't even finish it.
*The fish was rubbery and proved awkward to eat or manage. $60
**The drinks FULL OF ICE, allowed 3 sips. for$8. Then Done. So ask for lite ice or no ice.
** The tables are tiny.
** Utensils unwrapped and exposed to germs in the air.
**$150 price tag was not worth it!! I felt cheated.
**My guests did not even eat half the meal, which if you know AFRICANS this speaks volumes if they are not eating and asking for seconds.
My guest, who was not JAMAICAN feedback: -the little Island Quizine at Windsor Mill which had only 3 tables in an informal setting had better food than this. CHEF BOBBY D's restaurant had far tastier RASTA PASTA 🍝 than this. -CHIK FIL A Cobb salad and chicken strips meal tastes better than this and was only $25.
Overall, what should have been a celebration turned out to be a DISAPPOINTMENT 😥.
The GREATEST DISAPPOINTMENT for me was I had ordered the dessert, rum cake with vanilla ice cream 🍨. They used a TINY CONDIMENT PLASTIC CONTAINER to put the ice cream. 😣🥺😭🤔😡.
Sometimes we aim for more and lose what makes us good and unique in the first place . Again, Island Quizine please do better by BRAND JAMAICA.
My RECOMMENDATION is to travel to Allentown Pennsylvania and visit one Jamaican restaurant in that area. A man runs it that will have you licking your fingers just for the rice and gravy alone. And you don't taste meat yet!!! People all over the country has him cater and ship the food to them....
Read moreThe five star rating has to have been submitted by a company representative. Where shall I begin? I visited this restaurant for a birthday soirée. I ordered jerk wings which were rather flavorful; however, my lady friend ordered the IQ Pasta. The pasta was sub par at best. We were unable to determine if the chicken in the pasta was Tyson’s frozen pre-cooked or the store brand, because it most certainly was not cooked to order. There were three separate tables within this event, but we ordered first albeit the two tables that ordered 30 minutes after we’d placed our order were served first. We received our food approximately 30 minutes after them and when we addressed our conundrum with the server, he instantly became defensive and blamed the order in which we received our food on the order in which they were submitted. That said, he had to be the culprit as he was responsible for entering our orders. So, when I responded with the conclusion that the unacceptable wait was due to his failure to submit our order to the cook, he sarcastically stated… Well I’m sorry about that. On the other hand, I asked for a second drink which they were unable to make because they’d ran out of cranberry juice; however, the drink appeared on my bill despite not receiving the same. Given that they’d run out of cranberry juice at 6pm, I asked for a different drink and as I type this review; over an hour later I have yet to receive the drink. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, but the pleasure ends there. The wait staff lacks the required care to be of service to the public. Lastly, the rice and mashed potatoes are indelibly instant given the lack of flavor and consistency. I don’t recommend visiting this restaurant as they are in need of training in a...
Read moreWe went for Valentine’s Day and it was terrible. It took 30 minutes for us to be acknowledged when we sat down. An hour and 15 minutes to get drinks that were sitting at the bar for 10 minutes and my boyfriend ended up going over and taking them himself because our waitresses was no where to be seen. An hour and a half after being seated we finally got our appetizers. We got the wings and they were good however they took them before we were finished and boxed them up. Then we kept getting gaslighted about our main course. After 2 hours of waiting with no food we were over it. We ended up leaving before we got our food after watching everyone else, even people seated after us, get their food. The bar tender told us they would give us the drink on the house but then tried to charge us $40 for 10 wings( 5 for each of us that was the appetizer). I get that it might have been hectic because of Valentine’s Day, but communication is a must. I’m really understanding and if we were told what was going on before hand instead of waiting until we were ready to leave to try to explain we would’ve felt different. It was also really cramped and our table was leaned over more than once in order to serve people around us or to clean other tables (meaning dirty dishes were lifted over our food and drinks). It overall was a terrible way to spend our evening. Which is disappointing considered this place has...
