Parking: plenty Atmosphere: Not so Indian (booths and tables, western pictures on the walls) Service: very good Cleanliness: very good Prices: very reasonable, the most expensive menu item was $15, but most entrees were around $10.
Although the server was a bit quiet, I had no problem engaging him in conversation. As far as I could see, the people working there are a combination of Indians (primarily Sikh from Punjab) and Latinos.
We started the meal with the assorted vegetable platter which, unfortunately, was all fried food: vegetable pakora (fritters), vegetable samosa (spiced potato filling), and paneer pakora (thin slices of battered Indian cheese). I'm not a big fan of fried foods because of the health problems. Everything tasted okay. I also had the Kashmiri nan, which I wish had had more filling in it.
They offer piquancy ratings as high as you'd like, but the average customer gets offered 0-6.
My daughter ordered level 6 lamb and shrimp curry. While it was fairly spicy, we felt it could've been hotter. It tasted nice with the spiced biryani rice.
My son ordered level 1 goat curry but there wasn't any lamb left, so he got lamb curry, instead. It tasted nice and he really enjoyed it and the biryani rice.
I asked the server what he suggested for vegetarian food, so he suggested the dal makhani, which he felt is a properly Indian dish. One of my favorite dishes uses chickpeas, but I always forget the name, so I ordered this instead. It wasn't, of course, what I was hoping for, but it was still enjoyable at level 5 (I could've gone for hotter), and it came with two nan (naan) flatbreads.
I can say that all of these items were under-spiced. It's not that they were bad, it's just that I expect the full flavors of India, not a somewhat watered-down version. This certainly wasn't the worst Indian restaurant I've visited in the US, and I'll probably eat there again, but i'll try the $7.99 lunch buffet next time as it'll give me a better feel for the flavor.
Did you know? Chicken Tikka Masalah and Vindaloo are British foods inspired by Indian cuisine.

Please note that Indian restaurants always offer vegetarian food. However, getting vegan food is very difficult because of the prevalence of dairy products. You can certainly ask for dairy-free, though.
Disclosure: the owners are tenants of the apartments I manage right now. After we finished eating, and without my prior knowledge, the owner who was there told me that I didn't...
Read moreToday was my first visit to Brar's. The front window of the restaurant proclaims in foot-high letters that they have a lunch buffet 6 days a week. You are meant to take this as an inside joke. There is no buffet. Maybe there used to be one before COVID changed the world, but there isn't a buffet now. Laugh & move on.
I don't claim to be any sort of expert on Indian cuisine, so I asked our waitress what she might recommend. She suggested the thali since it has a variety of items so you can sample a few things. We got the non-vegetarian choice.
When it arrived, my inexperienced eye told me this wasn't very much food. I wasn't very much correct. It was plenty. My lunch partner took some of his home. I don't think I will be eating again today.
We were offered a spiciness level on a scale of 1-6. I've had experiences with Chinese restaurants where I ask for spicy, no really, extra spicy, but what I get instead is bland & I have to kick it up with some hot sauce after the fact. So I was hopeful that 5 would do the trick here. It did. This lit up my taste buds quite nicely. I have friends who would run screaming from this but I loved it.
With the sorry state of affairs in the world as it now is, it must be a tough go to keep a restaurant operating. Over the course of our lunch, the place got maybe half full. I'm perhaps being a bit generous with that estimate. It's a shame. This place deserves to stick around for a long time. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious food. Not McCookieCutter slop. Go there. You'll be...
Read moreI went here quite late in the evening, around 8:45; they close at 9:30pm and we were the only ones there. I typically try not to go to a restaurant so close to closing, but the staff were very nice and treated us well.
We ordered Paneer Bhatura, Garlic Nan, Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Saag. The spice leve is 1-6, my fiancée ordered a 3 and I ordered a 4.
The Paneer Bhatura comes with some things to dip it in or put on top; I enjoyed the different flavors of the sauces. Thr Paneer was not super flavorful on its own, but it was a good vehicle for the sauces.
Our Tikka Masala and Saag came out not long after we finished the Paneer, along with the Nan. The Nan is large, definitely enough for two. The portions of chicken and rice were large. Everything was hot and tasted fresh. I would say that if you have a low spice tolerance, you shouldn't order above a 2. Personally I can handle spice, so the 4 was not too bad. The food all tasted really great, I was impressed and satisfied.
The restaurant itself was clean and taken care of, the staff waited on us quickly and ensured we had everything we needed, and were kind even though we were so late.
I liked Ann Indian a lot, and this will definitely be our #1 Indian food spot going forward. Whether you love Indian food or have never had it before, I highly recommend you check...
