First and last time visiting this establishment. I had heard many good things about this place and wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately, I tried it and will never go back. Upon arriving, we stepped inside and another party came in right behind us. The hostess greeted the party behind us first and put them in cue to be seated first. I didn't say anything, I just let it slide. We waited about 15 mins to be seated.
Once at our table we were given in my opinion a limited menu, but I guess that depends on the personal opinion. Our server seemed rushed and couldn't give us much attention, which I didn't like. We were served chips and salsa, which was very delicious. I ordered the carne asada plate which comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I asked for beans, but the inky option they have are black beans and I don't eat black beans. I think my platw was around 25.00. I really wanted tacos, but their taco options only comes with 2 tacos and 2 sides for nearly 18 bucks. My friend ordered some sort of salad.
When the fiid arrived, we noticed that the portions are small. My friend said that their was nothing exciting about the salad she ordered and could have made a tastier one at home. I cut into my asade in 2 different places and had a bite. My asada was not cooked med-well as I had requested. It was more on the rare side, so my mashed potatoes and veggies were swimming in blood. It took awhile for our server to make his rounds back to our table before I could send my plate back. Less than 2 mins later he comes back over to our table with my plate, minus the asada and said they threw the meat back on the grill and ask if I want my mashed potatoes and veggies. I looked at him very puzzled and told him that the food is swimming in blood and I would like fresh mashed potatoes and vegetables to come out with my asada. ( I am not familiar with hiw restaurants handle food that is sent back to the kitchen. But.... it just seemed unsanitary to throw food back on the grill that has come in contact with someone's mouth. My fork was in my mouth when I sampled the 2 slices.)
As another server passed our table, I asked for the manager. Once the manager arrived, I explained my whole experience from being skipped over by the hostess, to my dissatisfaction regarfing the handling of sending my food back to the kitchen. The was a very nice lady. She investigated the entire situation and apologized. She removed the asada from my tab and offered free dessert, but their dessert menu only had 3 options 1 which isn't kid friendly due to the alcohol.
Again, the chips and salsa....delicious! The asada isn't authentic tasting carne asada. To me it tasted as if it had some sort of teriyaki glaze to it. I let my friend try a bite and she agreed. It was also more like a sirloin, instead of asada. My mashed potatoes were a bit too loose for me but my veggies were pretty good. I ordered a side of grilled jalapenos, they were not cooked long enough nor did they have seasoning. I ordered a side of grilled onions and they were good. I ordered strawberry lemonade, which was good. They charge 1.00 per refill.
Overall, I was not happy with the serve and was nit happy with the food. Not a good experience and isn't worth...
Read moreMy husband and I have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant since moving to Washington a few years ago. Sadly, we are still looking. This visit was the evening of March 1st, 2017.
According to their web page, they are “Upscale casual with Mexican, Latin, Caribbean inspired cuisine.” It looked like a mix between a fine-dining restaurant and a bar… These didn’t mix well in my opinion, but the look of the place isn’t why we went there. With a name like Azul Tequila Lounge & Restaurant, I am expecting a Mexican restaurant; perhaps that was my misconception.
Initial Pros & Cons: No queso, the only option for the tortilla chips was salsa. The salsa for the chips appeared to be made fresh, though it was not very spicy and they didn’t have any spicier options. The name of the restaurant is Azul, so I would assume the food would be Mexican with maybe a few other dishes tossed in for balance and options for the more picky eaters; I was wrong. The menu featured what seemed to be random dishes and very few Mexican style dishes dashed in.
We ordered our food at about 9pm and shortly after (about 9:05pm) ran out of the chips and salsa and were given no refill and our waiter did not return to our table until bringing out our food. Our food arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered it. The presentation was nice, I would give it a 9/10. Thankfully though, before the waiter left the table, I had a chance to open my silverware napkin to discover that I needed clean silverware.
The down-low: The food was lacking flavor and the Spanish rice was blandest I've ever tasted in my life. I love Mexican food, Spanish rice is a simple and pleasing side dish that I have tried plenty of times at many different venues. To me, it was almost as if I were eating white rice with a little bit of red food coloring. For my entree I ordered carnitas, and the pork was oddly sweet and didn't go well with other food for the taco. The accompaniments of guac, sour cream, and pico portions for making the tacos were tiny and not enough for all the tacos. My husbands entree was the chicken fajitas which he stated were “bland but juicy and fresh tasting.” I had to ask (another staff member as my waiter seemed to be MIA) for Cholula because the food was that bland.
Overall the service wasn't too bad, but lacked attention. I agree with my husband for this review. $14 would have been a more appropriate price for this meal and not the $36 it came to before tax. The food is overpriced and over reaching, I would not recommend...
Read moreLet’s face it, Azul’s doesn’t really need more five star reviews, everyone knows how amazing this restaurant is. However, tonight I had such an amazing experience that I had to tell the world. I’ve been eating here for years, as a matter of fact, I work nearby and get take out for lunch frequently over the last few years and have tried at least half the items on the menu. I almost always get the carnitas when I dine it, and they are delicious. I also love the chicken quesadilla (so crispy), the salmon BLT and the chicken chipotle cobb is great too. HOWEVER, tonight I tried something new and got the tacos al pastor because it was on happy hour and I had a euphoric experience, I mean other worldly. Oh my god, I’ve had tacos al pastor many times in Cabo and these are by far the best I’ve EVER had. Not only do all the ingredients on top taste so unbelievably fresh, but the pineapple pairs so wonderfully with the perfectly crispy grilled pork and a yummy, slightly spicy sauce on the bottom. My mouth is watering as a I relive the experience I had. Okay so we know the food is to die for but wait, there’s more! We had the absolute BEST service as well! I believe our receipt said our server was Sehil and he was amazing! He wasn’t overly-friendly/over-bearing, but he never left us unattended, as a matter of fact he kept the chips and salsa coming before we ever needed more (and we were pretty ravenous to be frank). (P.S. the chips and salsa = best on the planet). As someone who served for four years, I couldn’t describe more perfect service! Also a shout out to our favorite bar tender and server, Randall! All the people who work here are truly wonderful. The food is to die for and the atmosphere is great! The only thing that isn’t great, is the wait list, because everyone knows how good it is!
Sincerely, a...
