Had a pretty full sampling. Shoyu ramen, miso soup, teriyaki chicken, vegetable tempura, California rolls, a dragon roll, and yellowtail nigiri. Overall disappointing with no standouts.

Miso soup was, okay, too heavy for my taste like they were using a ramen base instead of a light dashi. The ramen was better, but I've definitely had better, and the noodles didn't have enough bounce.

Teriyaki chicken was, okay, a little dry and undersauced for my taste. Somewhat middle of the road when compared to the teriyaki fast food segment. Although the fast food turnover is such that they tend to get the temperature right. Veggie tempura was a boring mix of yams with a couple of not fully battered onion rings. No carrots, no broccoli, no mushroom.

The rolls were... okay. Like all good sushi, the rice is critical. On the day I went, the texture was decent, slightly more dry than I target, but fine. But the rice had virtually no flavor of its own. Severely lacking in vinegar and, to my taste, sweetness. It was unable to contribute to the roll as a whole therefore letting the whole experience down. The eel component of the dragon roll was cooked well, but undersauced; like the eel was intended to be eaten alone, separate from the roll it was placed on.

Finally, the yellowtail nigiri. This was not okay. If a roll is a perfect bite made of 5 or 6 ingredients, and one is a letdown, you can still be... okay. But here we have 3 ingredients, fish, rice, and a little wasabi. The fish was good, the rice was not, and the wasabi placed under the fish was overpowering and strange. It wasn't hot and tasted metallic. I blamed the blood line on the fish at first, but as I continued eating I realized that the fish was fine, and the rice had no flavor, so the culprit was the green stuff under the fish which...

I live in LA County and was in SLC to visit friends and family. We stopped here after watching a Man v. Food episode. Maybe the fact that this place was empty on a Friday night should have been our first clue. The service was terrible and having to remind the waitress that a meal was supposed to come with soup, repeated requests to get drinks refilled, etc. But it doesn't stop there! The food was TERRIBLE! The miso was beyond salty and obviously used VERY OLD seaweed. The albacore was not fresh at all and made swallowing ocean water more tasty. Oh! And if you want Rooster Sauce (sriracha) you get charged because they can't give you anything spicy. And what's up with mayonaise on e-v-e-r-y piece of sushi!? None of our food came together, in fact my plate (BBQ Short Ribs) came out AFTER every one else was DONE and the meat was cold and tough. Icing on the cake (aside from having to ask repeatedly for the check) was that my husband saw their application for MvF and their subsequent posting requesting people to come and fill the place and get the chance to be on TV.

Moral of this story: AVOID THIS PLACE...

Citrus Grill wasn't open so we came here. Thanks for the $90 lesson to never come back. I don't understand how this place was packed on a monday night. I also don't understand why Asian restaurants seem to think delivering your food item by item over the course of 6-10 minutes is acceptable. We came in together - we want to eat together. And our waiter never followed up so it was hard to order the additional food we did get. It was also too crowded - not just because they were busy but because they placed so many table and chairs too close. Like lining your hallway with table / chairs. The food was sub par and the ramen was way too salty. Not to mention the stupid sign on the entrance stating this is the only place in town to get ramen. And $16 for a snow cone bowl sucked. And stop with the snow cone bowls. Your are not fooling anyone. I want to get filled up with soup not attempted trickery with a 9" opening to reduce to a point. In the end we all went home and ate again to fill up. I don't understand this as an A plan destination - and it certainly didn't work for us...

Service: We went there on a Friday at 7. We had to wait a good 45 minutes to get a table and another 10-15 minutes for someone to take our order. Food: We had gone there mainly because we are ramen fiends and we heard really good things about the place. We got the Tonkatsu and Katsu curry ramen. Both were undeniably DELECTABLE. I would go with the regular size over the large next time as neither of us could finish it. Also if you get the tonkatsu, go for the optional thin flour noodles as their regular noodles are a bit thick and chewy. But everything else about the ramen was really good. The pork chashu literally melted in my mouth and the narutomaki were very light and soft. The eggs - perfectly soft boiled. I would go as far as to say it's the best ramen I've tried in SLC. Ambience: We sat on the table right next to the bar so it was very noisy and we had people walking past us a lot. If that's not your thing, you can try asking them for a table in the back. It seemed relatively calmer there.

Yet another casualty in the growing list of restaurant disappointments in salt lake city. I had been here about 5 years ago and it was great, I dont known what happened. When i inquired, the sushi chef informed me that the udon noodles were gluten free, these are not gf noodles. Anyone who reads ingredient lists knows better and when inquiring due to an allergy, the staff should be able to provide a correct answer about the food they serve all day every day. The sushi was super bland, like grocery market sushi bland. The ramen was also very bland, I would not eat it again. The fried chicken was weird texturally and was served with a strange pink mayonnaise sauce. My water glass was dirty and salty. The only things i liked were the pickled ginger and the wine. The quality of salt lake restaurants has gone down the tubes the past few years. There seems to be no consistency from visit to visit.
