The only reason I came here was because I saw another reviewer's post about their homemade tater tots, and I knew I needed some of those in my life. We called ahead to place the order, and they said it would take about 20 minutes. We arrived right at 20 minutes, and it and ended up closer to 30, but no biggie, just an FYI. It was a Sunday, and though lunch time, not terribly busy.
The vibe is kind of dive bar-y, but not exactly. It also looks like the place at which you'd hang out as a teen in a booth with all your friends after school (especially if you're a skatr boi or grrl!), but also they definitely serve plenty of alcohol. I think it would make a happenin' post-ski or snowboard stop. They even have an arcade game or two in the front lobby.
Once we got our order, we hopped in the car and dug into the tater tots immediately, 'cause you know they are going to be best fresh. We each ate one, dipping them in the accompanying ranch. They were crispy on the outside, but so tender on the interior as to near falling apart. I turned to my husband and said, "top notch tots, what do you think?" And he responded, "no, they are TOT notch!" And then we laughed and laughed because I have the sense of humor of a 6 year old. Or a dad.
At home, I stuck everything under the broiler as, though the fries have that burnished look making one think they will be crisp, alas, they were nothing but sad limpness. Even fresh from the restaurant. Sadly, after 20 minutes the tots weren't as tasty, and though improved upon reheating, once home we both felt they lacked some seasoning. Salt is easily added, but a smidge of garlic or something would be even better. My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak, and I did not try it, but it looked good, and I did enjoy a couple potato chips from the generous side of them that is included.
Their menu-offerings are heavy on the pizza, so perhaps we were remiss in not giving one a try. Other choices include a variety of burgers, taco, sandwiches, salads, and all the fried sides (including poutine!). Prices average about $10 per entrée, near $20 for pizza. The employee who assisted us was friendly, and it was clean inside. They have a bit of seating out on their covered porch, though it's too cold for that right now. Will be lovely once...
Read moreI'm so bummed...because I do like the food but the service is killing me. And I'm an easy to please customer. I want to be greeted, provided water and menus within first few minutes, take my order without feeling like a nuisance. I'll start by saying I've been to Spedellis several times. The first time was fantastic! Great service, quick, super nice. But over the last few months and going pretty regularly I've noticed the service has really declined DEPENDING ON WHO YOU GET ...just seems like they're hiring more people who just either don't care about customers or have never worked or been trained in customer service. Colin is the last server we had and it was a rough one... We had a large party come in, my family was in from out of town .Luckily they werent busy. We ordered beers and apps and as more of the group started showingup we asked for more menus and he said: there's plenty of menus on the table... So you're aware- there was 5 menus and we had 11 people... Then he was short and rude as others were ordering drinks and apps. He acted annoyed but we were nice and honestly just happy to be trying out this spot I had been raving about. At one point after he kept being short and rude someone asked who his manager was ... Instead of answering he got very angry and wouldn't answer... Eventually saying: Do you want food or not?! Resulting in us leaving of course. It was super awkward and didnt have to happen like that. He later told my friend who went up to pay that he just has had a really bad day... I'm embarrassed because I picked this spot but wont be going back for a good while until they have time to properly train their staff on how to treat customers. They really lost out because we've been repeat customers...not to mention it was a table of 11 people all ordering booze and...
Read moreI’d like to start by saying I’ve been a regular for quite some time and I love this establishment. The atmosphere and service is always top notch and very welcoming. The cocktails are always delicious, and the crowd is very warm and relaxed. It doesn’t hurt that the music being played is always superb as well. I have to admit though that the food comes first and it seems as though there has been a sharp decline in the quality of the food very recently. I hate to say this because I really do love coming here and my orders have always been great up until recently. My recent orders the past few months have all been over cooked or burnt. Overcooked tots, chicken parm Sandwich, tacos, etc. Recently my pizza tasted that of the quality of a chain restaurant and that saddens me. Way too much sauce to start. So much so that it was spilling all over the place and overpowering the cheese and toppings. The crust was thick and doughy instead of its thin-lightly-crispy self. Almost like a mildly crisp New York style slice. The ricotta cheese was plopped sloppily upon each slice instead of spread around evenly so as not to dominate the other flavors. The worst offenders of the night were the garlic knotts. It seemed as if the knotts were cooked separately and then a mixture of 3 buttons of garlic mixed with pepper flakes were hastily prepared afterward and dumped over the knotts. So so much garlic that I had to scrape all of it off in order to try an enjoy them. It was very overwhelming. I still love this establishment and do not know if a change in kitchen staff has to do with any changes. I wanted to be thorough in my review to hopefully be helpful in anyway. No hard feelings, I just miss the food I once loved. I hope this review helps in...
