We were in Milwaukee for the first time, visiting friends at Alverno College. We chose Courtyard because we had stayed at other Marriott hotels in Anaheim, CA and in Hawaii, and we trusted the Marriott name. We arrived on August 6th and left on the 11th.
When we first checked in after 4 p.m. on that Tuesday, a young woman assigned us Room 216. The only question she asked was: Is the second floor all right? We agreed that it was. When we got to the room, we noticed that it was the closest room on that floor to both the elevator and the ice machine. At that time, we did not question the location and our first night was quiet and pleasant.
Friday and Saturday evenings were quite the opposite. There was constant elevator activity, loud talking until 2:30 a.m. and the ice machine was in frequent use, as at least two parties, filled their coolers with ice, repeatedly collecting ice and dumping it into the coolers several times around midnight both nights. The most disconcerting part of those evening was the loud yelling in the hall as others arrived on our floor into the wee hours of the morning. Needless to say, we got very little sleep, which was a shame because we were scheduled to play instruments at a wedding on Saturday and had a rehearsal on both Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
Sunday and Monday evenings were not as bad, but the noise level of guests arriving late at night on our floor contributed to our constant sleep disturbance. We realized that we heard virtually every guest arriving on that floor via elevator, regardless of where their room was located.
When we were checking out, we dropped the keys at the front desk and, in fact, gave them back to young woman who had assigned us that room. She said nothing, but a tall uniformed fellow who obviously worked at your hotel, was holding a small case of orange juice that he had been replenishing in your snack area adjacent to the front desk and was conversing with the girl when we arrived, did ask us how our stay was. I answered honestly, saying that the location of the room was very noisy, especially on the weekend. And his response, as others had previous been was: Oh, right, the drunks at the wedding…I mentioned that the subsequent nights were also noisy because our room was closest to the elevator and the ice machine. The girl who had first checked us in...
Read moreThere wasn't anything particularly wrong with this Courtyard. I would say it had what I'm used to from a Courtyard. There were just a lot of little things not quite right.||Let me start by saying that the staff was very friendly.||Here are some observations in no particular order ...||The pool was closed the entire week I was there. I read in a review somewhere else that guests observed that on or before July 14 and were disappointed as they had planned for their children to go there. It is a small pool but still. Maybe the hotel needs to send out a heads up to people. I mean I received tons of unnecessary emails about my stay already. ||The entire week the wipes in the gym were empty. I pointed that out on day one and was told housekeeping was going to take care of it. There were also no towels. The second day I ran into somebody and they brought pool towels which were a bit too large but they worked. Throughout the week towels kept piling up as nobody emptied the basket. ||The hotel is clean but could use a little refresher here and there.||I appreciate the shampoo/conditioner/body wash containers for generating less plastic waste in the shower but the latter was empty. I went to the front desk and they had a new one waiting for me when I got back in the evening. ||The tables in the bistro area could probably be wiped a bit more frequently. ||I saw somebody coming to the bistro with an empty ice bucket asking for ice. I suspect there was a broken ice machine. ||Breakfast is served until 9:30 AM but I saw three people turned away at 9:24 AM with the excuse that she was there by herself and breakfast closed at 9:30 AM. I guess she at least offered to serve Starbucks. I get that that was the end of the shift but true service is if you stay a few minutes longer to make your customers happy. This is probably the worst of the things I observed.||I think all of this could be a management problem and also a problem with being understaffed. I saw the same person at the front desk in the evening when I checked in and the following morning. Then she was in the bistro that evening and again the next morning. That shows great work ethic and maybe she should always be there for breakfast. ||I wasn't dissatisfied overall and got what I expected. I just wanted to share these observations hoping that management will see it to make...
Read moreStayed a entire weekend with a family of 17, 4 rooms rented. Houses keepers but 1 we came into contact with were unwelcoming, seemed always mad/crabby never cleaned our rooms or replaced towels one housekeeper even argued with one of our family members they were to be checked out so front desk had to get involved and reassure the housekeeper we were booked for another day it would of been a honest misunderstanding if she wasnt so bitchy about it. We had 8 kids with us who looked forward to swimimg for 2 days unfortunately it was so unpleasant the pool had hair balls in it everywhere us parents kinda walked around the pool to throw the hair out because they still wanted to swim we figured some hair wouldn't hurt. The water was extremely salty we had to give the kids eye drops before the night was over, the hot tub had a rim of scum around it this wasn't noticed until we had already gotten in it. The next morning we let the kids go swimming again one said "I stepped in poop so I grabbed the stick they use to pull people out the water used the end to see if the spot she said was poop would move then we can assure ourself we haven't been swimming in poop water sure enough once I hit it, it went up in a cloud of brown smoke that tells me it's been there for a while disgusted we told the front desk pool got shut down everyone lost a day of swimming that was Saturday morning by Sunday afternoon still no one had even attempted to clean out the pool and since the pool hadn't been used and was super still you could see all the huge hair balls sitting at the bottom of the pool so gross to think we spent the first day in that filth. And last not so much a horrible issue but the Bristol unless you have money to spend and money isn't a issue I would not drink there for a bottle beer Coors light I paid $5.80 my sister bought a round of 3 small mixed drinks and 2 beers $67.00 small glass of mixed drinks are $15.00 a piece that's not in my budget so I only bought 1 beer the entire stay lol. I give 2 stars because the front seat people, manager and Bristol workers were very nice and pleasant the overall upkeep of the hotel it's self was okay so we're the rooms besides the pool and housekeepers everything else was okay nothing to really...
