I consider myself a foodie and am quite picky about certain foods. I was honestly apprehensive based on location. Just a little corner mom and pop operation. And it's mostly a take out operation. But seriously....don't be fooled by the brick and mortar. This is some of the best Mexican/Guatemalan I've ever had. Very fresh, tasty, well prepared food. Great salsa and guacamole. Chicken is always moist and seasoned well. I typically don't love most enchiladas dishes or refried beans. But I gave them a shot here and they were phenomenal. Other things we've tried: flautas de Guatemala and Guatemalan pipian. Both very good. Best part: this place is blocks from our home, you get complimentary chips and salsa while you wait and the owners are so nice. Happy to support this local establishment and family business. Worth every penny we...
Read moreHad lunch here for the first time today. The Chiles Rellenos were very good. I have not had them for many years, so was happy to have them once again. The portion was more than adequate and the owners are very friendly. Prices were also reasonable. My only complaint would be that I would never go in this restaurant again in the cold weather. It was so cold that by the time my food arrived my teeth were literally chattering. I commented that it was cold and the owner said it is colder in the kitchen, which was obvious when the female owner came out with a hat, boots and jacket on. Either they should raise the heat, contact the owner if that is the issue or not serve food to sit down customers in the winter. A nice small local, neighborhood establishment, but the visit was destroyed by the...
Read moreMara's Grill is a very small (5 twin-top tables) hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant where I've never had a bad experience. It's nearly a walk up where you order through a window. But the food is tremendous, the service fast and very friendly (despite an obvious language barrier), and the prices are ridiculously low.
I discovered this gem about three years ago and no one was ever there: I couldn't figure out how they were surviving. Nowadays, you need to come early or you'll be ordering take out. They could add 50% to their prices and not lose a single customer (certainly not me).
If you like Mexican food, do yourself a favor and check Mara's out. I doubt you'll have any regrets... worst case, you'll be out about the same time and money as a...
