Nite Owl Drive-In Ice Cream Parlor & Sandwich Shoppe — Restaurant in Milwaukee

For many years numerous people have told me that I absolutely need to try the food at Night Owl because it's extremely delicious and it can only be bought once per year during the summer months. I always missed my chance. But, last week my girlfriend and I were finally able to try their burgers!

I ordered 2 double cheeseburgers with lettuce and grilled onions. I was very surprised at how good they actually are! The patties were lightly seasoned compared to the others. And lacked that charbroiled goodness I love from Kopps. But, the burger was HUGE and juicy.

I've always been eager to know how Night Owl stacked up against burgers from some of my favorite places which are; Kopps, Denny's, Portillo's, and Outback in that order with Kopps being the best. The night owl double cheeseburger is big, delicious, a tad bit on the greasier side for my liking. The patties were cooked medium rare with more pink in the middle than I'm comfortable with.

So, overall, I ranked it 4th between Portillo's and Outback due to its mildly seasoned medium rare doneness and its size being on par with Portillo's. I never expect to see pink meat in my burger. Outbacks burgers are better seasoned. But, they're also the smallest of them all. So, Night Owl definitely won in that category. I look forward to trying Night Owl against. Perhaps it wasn't their best. But, I don't plan on throwing out the baby with the bath water, LOL. I'll definitely be going again...

Love it. They have everything you need to satisfy the whole family. I have taken my niece and her four children there several times. They have hot dogs, burgers, chicken nugets, fries, onion rings, fish sandwiches, and lots more. The burgers can easily be split between 2 adults. All portion sizes ample. Of course, the best part is shakes, malts, sundaes, and ice cream. They usually have 6 or so flavors of ice cream each day. You can eat in your car. Or inside. The inside is small - maybe 8-10 tables. Another great idea is to take your order about 1 block west and across the street. There is a small parking lot to watch planes take off and land at the airport. Be aware that they close for a couple of months in winter. And, the hours change for the season. Summer hours are longer. You should also know they accept only cash payment. Go often...

My favorite place for hamburgers in Milwaukee. The burgers are all cooked well done (and not cooked to specification), but they are among the best of that class in Milwaukee. They are usually cooked to order, but sometimes I get a burger that's been sitting on the grill. I've found that the cheeseburgers aren't worthwhile--the cheese is thin and doesn't add much flavor. But a standard burger with mayo, pickles, and grilled onions is a thing of beauty at the Nite Owl. The fries and onion rings are tasty, but not showstoppers. The malts are great, and the sundaes, as well. The restaurant is not very large, so there may be a wait for a table during peak hours.
