The Stone might be the friendliest bar in Milwaukee. Before I settled my butt into a seat at the bar, someone welcomed me with a hello and a welcome. Soon, more of the customers ambled up to me to talk about a myriad of subjects. This was an eclectic crowd, and obviously, all were welcome. These days, I'm invariably the oldest cat in the joint, but no one at the Stone seemed to notice. Neither did my dark glasses or fedora cause people at The Stone to keep their distance. That was very cool because how I dress is often construed as pretentious in the down-to-earth confines of Milwaukee. Really fun and attentive staff, friendly, welcoming neighborhood patrons and extremely reasonable prices for great drinks. As a single woman, I have never felt unsafe or bothered when I've gone in alone. It's well-lit and clean and you find that the people around you engage you in conversation so you are never truly alone and it's easy to feel as if someone is watching your back.
