As an avid supporter of North Minneapolis and Black-owned businesses, I will not stop recommending this place. It is all around excellent in every way possible. I strongly recommend the savory dry rub chicken, the blackened shrimp and grits, and the veggie burger. Granted I did not have every single dish, but those three I have had, and they are just outstanding. When I ordered, I did such over the phone because I had a $75 budget I had to spend using the corporate card. Because of the affordable prices Breaking Bread had, I ordered A LOT of food. The person at the counter was exceptional at not only listening to my order over the phone, but also making sure the ones who were dining in were serviced. I left her a $20 tip in cash because of how great she was. The receipt said her name was Monica W. They were out of desserts when I was ordering, so the next time I visit, whether it is take out again or dining in, I will try their dessert as well as some of the dishes I have not had yet! Highly recommend!

Breaking Bread Cafe is both a great restaurant and a driving force for social change. They partner with Appetite for Change, a nonprofit, and strive to feed the community. I ordered the chicken and waffles (restaurant special). Absolutely incredible! Juicy and spicy fried chicken sitting on top of a fluffy and sweet Belgian waffle. Easily the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. I also ordered the lunch special with bbq brisket, cheesy mac, and black eyed peas. Tasty classic soul food. The staff were so friendly and passionate about what they do. I look forward to stopping in again! Great food and a great cause.

Normally a great menu choice, Chicken and waffles. Chicken was just ok but waffle was a soggy mess. Inedible for me, the food was cooked as if they didnt care who was eating it. This was my second time eating this menu item, and they definitely fell off from my first experience. I was served this Friday March 22nd around 430. Gross...PS I work nearby and value your intrinsic mission, but people have to care a bit more about what they are serving. Whether its busy or slow, weird that I got served this at a time when you guys were very slow. Hopefully the right person reads this. Much Love!

I must say I noticed this place while driving down the street once came in atmosphere is very clean music is very relaxing the host was so welcoming I was overwhelmed with all the choices and she made it very easy on ordering I had to sample all size and I must say I am not disappointed at all I most definitely will come back if you have any doubt please come I sure you you will not be disappointed also they have a garden where they grow their produce there's no pork which is very nice they have chicken and andouille sausage in the black eyed peas with rice And Cook thank you I appreciate you so much, you most definitely will have a return customer! Awesome their price is very reasonable but then again there is no bad price on good quality food!.. I promise you they got someone's Titi and great-grandma from down south cooking in...

Had absolutely HORRIBLE service. Wait rolled her eyes at me and acted like the problem was my fault. My wait forgot to enter my order an refused to comp to it. People around me got served long before I did. Other people at my table got their food 20 minutes before I did. I sat and waited and waited.. She did not take my order until others who came in 15 minutes after others who came in after me. Then told me that it was a problem with MY ordering! I try to support small local businesses in Minneapolis, but I can not recommend this place. My chicken wings were basically coated with flour and salt....lots of salt. Tasted others food at my table while I waited and the tomato soup and fancy cheese sandwich was excellent. Chicken wings are bland. Won't be going...
