Been shopping at united noodles for years and glad to see another food place opened up here. Ono Hawaiian Plates is a decent place. Prices not too bad and the amount of food was great. My partner and I got the chicken katsu and Kalua pork mixed plate and a spam musubi. Came with 2 scoops of rice and mac salad. The chicken katsu was my favorite part of it. It was well breaded, crispy and the pieces of chicken were actually quite generous! The katsu sauce it came with was the right katsu sauce if you've ever had it from a Japanese place, sweet and savory (4/5). The Kalua pork was not bad. Was tender and again, quantity amount was generous. The guava bbq sauce that came with it was tangy and sweet, just wish it came with more, 50 cents for each extra cup of sauce (3/5). The mac was nothing special but hey, it came with the plate so I'll take it (2.5/5). I was most excited for the spam musubi but I think that was the biggeat let down. The spam wasn't grilled it seems like and very little sauce and seasoning. I've made better spam musubi at home so this one was a miss for me (1/5). The place it self was nice and the customer service was quick, maybe 10 mins of wait to get our food but there was a bigger party before us. Little space for dine in though so heads up for that. Environment and service i would give 3/5. Overall though, for the price and amount of food you get, it wasn't bad. Wouldn't go out of my way to eat there, but shop there frequently enough that I'll try more things from the...
Read moreI loved the painting on the wall and the island-style theme of the eating area, but I wasn't satisfied with the tuna poke bowl at all. There was absolutely no flavor in the entire dish. The tuna wasn't even seasoned and basically just thrown in raw with soy sauce poured on top while the rice was hot (which is a sin to real poke). So hot, in fact, it made the whole bowl warm (it should be cold) and cooked the bottom of the tuna. I couldn't even eat it and had to chunk it up as a loss. I was very disappointed.
Edit: I recieved some backlash from the owner because I didn't report my dissatisfaction and give them a chance to correct it, which would have been justified if there was a mistake with my order but there wasn't. And I lived in HI so I was giving an honest first impression, as I would any other place, and not trying to direct hate in any way. I also realize they deleted their comment towards me, so I included the little preview I got in my email (for...
Read moreOno Hawaiian Plates is amazing. It’s a small restaurant situated in an Asian grocery store with open seating. I got a mixed plate with katsu and galbi, and substituted noodles for my rice. It was so delicious, the noodles had such great garlic flavor that paired so well with both meats. I usually don’t like onions and peppers in my noodles, but the onions and peppers were not overwhelming at all and contributed to the aromatic flavor. The katsu was incredibly crispy, but not overcooked and chewy. The galbi was the best by far, having excellent flavor. The katsu came with a sauce that seemed to be ketchup based, but I didn’t end up using it. The galbi was so flavorful it didn’t even need the teriyaki sauce. The portions were huge, I had enough of everything to take home. The service was really amazing, the host brought my food out to me when it was ready and grabbed utensils for me when I forgot. I would travel into Minneapolis just to eat here and...
