Always great beer. I love the Cosmosis sour series and the New England Hazy Tea. Usually have food trucks. Open early, serving coffee/tea/beer. Ideal remote/WFH alternative. THC drinks for here or to-go. Children tend to roam as if it's a daycare, with little adult control, and this brings me to the dogs:
Mildly dog friendly, based on my most recent couple of visits, my view here has gone down. My dog has been there probably 30-50 times and is pretty chill, but last time he barked at some adults and children who walked up without me knowing and pet him. He was on a short leash (2-3ft max from me). He barked at them and I was asked to leave. The sign says well behaved dogs are welcome so I agree with being asked to leave in this case, but I'd recommend adding that "well behaved humans are required or they'll be asked to leave". People should know not to touch another person's dog without first asking the human and definitely don't just let your kids roam and approach a random dog. Mine is kid friendly and gentle, but he also has anxiety so several people and random kids trying to pet him while he's just hanging out and I'm in a conversation with friends is not okay and can lead to barking. Regardless of how cute or chill the dog seems, you're entering their "bubble" without their permission or their human's permission and the dog may see it as a threat and...
Read moreI have visited Venn since it opened several years ago. I love the location, they always have a fairly broad range of beers on tap, and even some wild "unusual" beers sometimes offered, like a "Mexican Dark Lager" or an "Apricot Wheat". I think their preference is for brewing a lot of different beers that fit lots of "check boxes" that prove to be just "ok" to me. They satisfy the masses, no doubt about that.
But the location is great, parking can be a slight issue, and often we have to park way off in the side-streets and walk. Why I give it a 4-star is that lately the crowd that is attracted to Venn is kinda loud and "different". No slams whatsoever, it's just not my "crew". And so so so many dogs too! On the night we were there we saw a big dog fight, like right in the middle of the brewery. Crazy.
I also am kinda put off by the music selection, which is often very loud and hard-core rock or grunge. Again, no slam at all, just not my personal vibe. Obviously, others love the vibe, as it's often very crowded... So it's just me clearly. Masks are no longer required.
I do love love love sitting outside Venn on the large patio, with the light rail trains running out in front. On a beautiful summer evening, that patio is fantastic. So, overall, a solid 4 stars from me. Just not exactly my vibe, that's all. Personal...
