Volstead's Emporium is similar to Marvel Bar in Minneapolis, but I have been to both and Volstead's is way better in comparison. Hidden behind S&M on Lake Street in Uptown, you walk into this sketchy alley with dumpsters and you'll see this door to the left with a red light above it.

They are only open from Thur-Monday, 5pm-2am. If the red light is off, that means they are full and you cannot enter (this is nice because it limits the amount of people in there at one time and if it's too crowded, you wouldn't enjoy the experience). You can make reservations, though, which I would recommend on a weekend! Knock and the person at the door will open and may pretend to ask you for a password. Just have fun with the experience! After you are "accepted", you will head down some stairs and through a door into the lounge. Their decor is amazing and you really feel like you are taking a step back in time!

The best experience to have here is to get a table lining the wall with a curtain that can close over it. The server opens a little window in the wall and takes your drink/food order. Their food options aren't great which adds to my lower review, but it is so fun to go and get a couple drinks/maybe an appetizer!

I have been there a few times now and have been really disappointed to not have any live music there because they have such a great stage and a lovely piano waiting to be played. That would have made my experience a 5 star! A jazz club/speakeasy really needs to have live music to complete the experience especially if they are only open a few days a week. This would have put this place over the top!
