The fried green tomatoes were delicious! All the other fried food tasted the same, no distinction in spices, etc. The best part of the meal was one of our waitresses, Kari! We were going to go back specifically because she had told us about other entres and how good they were. Kari's whole personality gave the "so, so" meal the pizzazz to get us back. She seemed to have a slight stutter, possibly a disability, yet her spot on waitressing was amazing! It made us like JJ's more knowing they supported and hired persons with disabilities and we were determined to be regular patrons. Upon arriving back and asking for her a few days later, we found out she had been fired! We asked to speak to the manager, but were basically ignored. So, I spoke with one of the other waitresses who said, "well, she did have a little shake." It was also my understanding that she had never missed a day of work and had not been written up and that she was supposedly fired because she looked at the schedule wrong and came for 2nd shift instead of 1st shift and fired on the spot! Upon asking for the manager again, finding out her name was Jane, and is also one of the owners, the lady at the takeout window said she was in her office counting drawers, then immediately asked another patron for their order. I stood a moment, expecting someone to get Jane, but was treated as if I were invisible. I left and will never return, nor do I recommend the fried seafood platter, unless you want everything to taste the same. Supporting those with disabilities is very important, especially when they still perform their job above and beyond with a smile and overall pleasantness. We've all looked at the schedule wrong at some time or another. I'm retired and worked close to 40 years. Whenever someone didn't show up, we would call, making sure they were okay. It is my understanding that this did not happen as the term "no show, no call" as the waitress we spoke with so openly discussed...
Read moreI tried this place for lunch one day since it it close to our office. I walked in expecting to be seated for service and saw a counter to place my order. This turned out to be a togo counter. The sign to be seated for dining in was behind me. That part was confusing but I was not bothered, now I know for next time. I had a seat and waited about 20 minutes for my togo order. While there I spoke to a very nice server that told me they had only been open a few weeks and were still working out the kinks. She said all food was cooked to order and it was a family ran business. I like supporting restaurants like these and will go to one over a large chain anytime. When I opened my plate, the amount of shrimp on my po-boy surprised me. It was full of shrimp and the bread was really soft. A lot of times po-boy bread can be tough or hard and that makes it a mess to eat. The shrimp were lightly battered as I like. This sandwich was perfect. The fries were crispy and seasoned right. The food was plentiful and was at a great price. I will be back to try some other things soon. Only draw back was the parking. When a place is busy and everyone has a truck it is difficult to get in and out. After they work out the kinks and i try them a few more times I hope to increase my rating...
Read moreUPDATE I HAVE BEEN BACK A COUPLE TIMES. SEEMS TO BE FLOWING BETTER! Very rarely do I give a bad review. And this one has taken me awhile to write. The food is decent. Nothing exceptional but good. If someone I was with wanted to pop in for a bite, I definitely would. The customer service is extremely lacking. The wait staff is friendly. I guess this is more aimed at the kitchen and whomever takes the Take Out orders. 3 times in a row now, I have had to wait 40 - 60+ minutes for 2 meals. Each time, I was told it would be 20 minutes. Each time, I used all + more of my lunch break just waiting in the restaurant. Each time, my order has not been 100% accurate. I've never received cocktail sauce. Even after they asked if we wanted it. Today, we didn't receive any sauce or salad dressing. The last time, the fish was to have the Julianne (spelling) sauce. Which it didn't. I don't know if it's understaffed or laziness. I'm thinking more understaffed and overwhelmed. Which I can emphasize with. But, 3 times in a row of waiting a ridiculous amount for the food to not be correct has gotten old. I truly hope they get...
