This is the second best barbeque I have ever had in my life. To put that in context, my father's best friend was a gourmet Chef whose real passion in life was barbeque, so my barbeque bar is particularly high. Ever since I moved to the south five years ago, I have been on a quest to find great barbeque. I have found bad barbeque, decent barbeque, and even serviceable barbeque up to this point. Now I can finally say that I have found great barbeque. I tried the pulled brisket as well as the pulled pork butt and both were excellent. The meat is perfectly slow cooked, and even though I know it is not a great benchmark for barbeque, it bears mentioning that the smoke ring is a perfectly respectable quarter inch. The bark is fantastically flavorful and there is no hint of fake smoke flavor from a bottle. As for the sauce, I have tried their âsweet and spicyâ as well as the Alabama style âwhite sauceâ. I did not care so much for the âsweet and spicyâ sauce, but the Alabama white was great. The ambiance is humble without being dirty or sketchy, and the chairs and tables do their job without tipping, creaking, wobbling, or otherwise inconveniencing large men like myself. Outdoor seating is available at clean and solidly built picnic tables. Service is counter style, and they allow you to call in and order ahead to skip the wait. Portions for the âLunchâ are quite generous. I only had a bit of their boss beans as a side, as the sauce did not really fit my palate. You may notice that I still gave them a five star review, even though I did not particularly appreciate one of the sauces. In my opinion, barbeque is about the meat, not the sauce. I do not think their sauce is bad; it just is not what I look for in a barbeque sauce and I refuse to dock points because their regional sauce style does not fit my taste. If you enjoy meat cooked slowly in smoke using traditional techniques with a superb attention to detail then this place is for you. If you would be happy with some brand name sauce poured liberally over the local grocery store deli pulled pork and mixed into a pasteâŠI would still recommend you come here and experience what real, honest, true barbeque tastes like. I have not been this thoroughly pleased with a meal in years. Thank you Meat Boss, you have earned a loyal customer for many years (and many...
Read moreEasy access right off the main road Cottage Hill. There is plenty of room to park. I chose Conecuh sausage link. I just wanted to grab something quick for an early lunch. I have never had this type of sausage it Reminds me of spicy jimmy dean sausage with a smoke flavor. I liked it a lot it was not super greasy. It was only 3 dollars and some change so I would say fair price. BBQ tends to be pretty pricy. I would like to come here for dinner with my husband. I would like to try the brisket or the ribs. I did see the little smoker located in the back!! I'm excited to tell him about it and we give it a try in his day off.
The lady that took my order over the phone was very kind and was quick. The outside looks a little raggedy But inside it's very clean! I believe that they are pretty busy because there was a lot of staff in there and it's only 11 am.
This would be a great place to grab lunch with a friend. Grab take out barbecue for a meal at home.
I'm a little upset because they have "Togo Pick-up" parking in the front spot #3 and #4 Unfortunately people are not respectful of others! Customers parked in spots and went inside to eat. I'm not lazy by anymeans BUT there are handicap/elderly/sick people who need to pick the order up and go. I have a 9 month old who was asleep. I'm alone and did NOT want to wake her. She is teething right now and needs her sleep. Any mother will tell you it's a chore to take a baby out and put them back in.
I gave five stars based off of the service that I received, how good the sausage was, the location and how clean it was inside! As always if you have found this review helpful give me a thumbs up đ and please follow me for other...
Read moreMeat Boss is a excellent bbq place in a state known for killer seafood! You donât think, âImma head on down to âBama for some âQue!â So I have been bitterly disappointed by some of the bbq places native Alabamans have rated so highly. Thatâs not the case here. They serve chopped pork, brisket and ribs. The ordering is a bit complicated, but the food is as good a bbq as youâll find anywhere. We ordered the âpulledâ pork and brisket, no bun, although you have several bread choices. You can get a little cup of slaw or potato salad, various very tasty bbq sauces, pickles, sour cream, killer jalapeño jelly, and a few other accoutrements none of which detract or mask the savory Smokey meat flavor. The meat is fatty enough to be really succulent without being oily/greasy. All the âQue sauces are delicious, but the Carolina and Spicy Carolina (neither mustard based) were the standouts. A word about their potato salad. If youâre used to restaurant-grade potato salad, and can live without it, wait till you try Meat Bossâ made-in-house version. Potatoes are cooked to perfection, then slathered with a mayo/sour cream dressing thatâs both decadent and light, with just enough tang to keep your tastebuds clamoring for more.
Reasonable prices, super helpful, friendly, and accommodating staff, this wonderful bbq purveyor is definitely on the âhappily...
