I have been wanting to try here for some time because the online menu has some very interesting sounding dishes on it and I like to try a refined taste on occasion. However the online menu isn't correct and while I understand they're working on that in the meantime it should be removed because it misleads potential customers. Be that as it may, I decided that I wanted to try the lane cake Which online says it's $12. So I ordered one to go when I was coming through downtown mobile. I got there to pick it up the staff were all laughing and carrying on in the back I waited and got my cake and was charged $17.60 for what is advertised as a $12 piece of cake. I don't appreciate false advertising for starters, it's certainly not the customers fault your website is not up to date. I should have been charged the price it was on the website as advertised. But more importantly than that, the "famous Alabama lane cake" was the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth! It tasted like pure alcohol and nothing else. The cake itself was very dry, so the attempt to moisten it with booze failed. Two bites in and I simply threw it away. I guess this is another one of those things like Nashville hot chicken because I was born in Alabama and lived most of my life here except for 4 years I was in Nashville where they never had Nashville Hot Chicken anywhere, nor had anyone heard of it, and until 3 years ago I had never even heard of Lane cake. So this is somebody's idea of some made up Alabama thing that most alabamians wouldn't even bother to eat. This one sure never will again. Biggest waste of money. For $17 the damn thing should have been organic but I can assure you it wasn't! Because of the dishonesty, confusion and lack of give a damn about customers, I've decided I will not grace this establishment with my presence again and do not...

The Hummingbird Way looks like it’s trying to be fine dining in Mobile, but the food and attitude don’t quite match the price tag.
Our table had a mix of dishes and drinks — some fine, others… not so much. The crème brûlée was burnt, not “perfectly caramelized,” but straight-up bitter. When we politely mentioned it, the chef came to our table to tell us we were wrong, insisting it should taste like a burnt marshmallow “because that’s how the French make it.” (I’ve had crème brûlée in France — trust me, that’s not it.)
One friend ordered a specialty Grasshopper cocktail, hated it, and asked for something else. The chef again felt the need to comment about it, making it personal. Completely unnecessary.
The food? • The “Hangover Hash” was extremely salty, and their website says it’s served with sweet potatoes — nope, regular potatoes. • The amberjack fish was overcooked. • The shrimp and grits had olives in them — why?? It overpowered the dish entirely.
We shared this feedback in a constructive way, but the chef’s defensiveness made it clear they weren’t interested.
And here’s the kicker: at the end of the night, the bill included a mysterious 3.5% “admin fee.” Our server had vanished, so I had to flag someone down to explain it — turns out it’s a credit card fee. Which makes zero sense, because who the hell pays cash at a restaurant anymore? If everyone is going to be charged it, just add it to the menu prices instead of sneaking it in at the end.
We paid our $638 bill without argument, but between the uneven food, pretentious attitude, and nickel-and-dime fees, I...
Read moreThis is a somewhat hidden gem in the city of mobile. I decided to try this place for dinner and I must say it did not disappoint at all! The atmosphere of the restaurant is fun, energetic and overall family & friends oriented. The staff are professional, knowledgeable and make honest suggestions which is always a plus. I am a fan of oysters and these did not miss the mark! They were not chewy and they were filled with flavor. The cocktails are something you can’t miss out on; they do not water them down and they get the job done. The steak was cooked to perfection! When the chef came around to the table I gave him praises for having one of the top steaks in the city hands down. The potato’s that were paired with it honestly left me speechless; just delicious! The wedge salad was simple, fresh and packed with flavor. The soft shell crab on the bed of greens paired so well together and the way the flavors meshed together is just wonderful! Up to this point everything was beyond great so it was only right to try the desserts! The crème brûlée was good however the pineapple upside down cake stole the show!! The waiter explained that this wasn’t a “pop in the microwave” type of dessert so it would take a little extra time but would be worth it. He did not lie!! You could taste the quality and difference from that of other restaurants. If you have not tried this place yet you are missing out on a great experience. After trying the food I understand why they have so many awards and have been featured on...
