We stopped in after seeing some great-looking food photos online and reading solid reviews. The restaurant is large, clean, and bright with its own parking lot. We were greeted and seated quickly, and our server was friendly and attentive.
The menu is extensive—it takes a minute to take it all in. I ordered the country fried steak with gravy, fried okra, fried squash (asked for both well done), and a side salad with no tomato or onion and their “homemade” ranch dressing. My dining partner ordered a dish that also included gravy and a bread component.
When the food arrived, it was brought by a runner—not our server—and none of the plates had the gravy. My salad was missing entirely, and my companion's bread was also missing. The okra and squash were excellent—both fried just right. The fried okra and the fried squash were perfection. They were fried extra crispy just like I ordered. The squash was cut into long, thick strips, almost like French fries, which worked surprisingly well. The country fried steak, on the other hand, showed up sad and plain—completely dry with no gravy as promised on the menu. It should never have left the kitchen looking like that.
When the salad finally came, it had a disturbing amount of standing water in the bottom of the bowl—far more than a simple rinse. It felt like it was scooped straight out of a water bath or sink. I pointed it out to the server, because it really was that excessive.
At checkout, there was a sign announcing their new coffee bar with half-off drinks. I asked about it, but the cashier seemed completely unprepared. She told me she didn’t know anything about the coffee—just that it started today—and didn’t even offer a menu. I asked if their café mocha was made with espresso and she didn’t know, though she did pronounce it “expresso.” When she went to ring it up, she picked up a coffee menu from a stack behind the counter to find the price but still didn’t hand me one. I had to ask to see it. I ended up ordering a café mocha with half the usual amount of chocolate. It was made with espresso, but had a harsh, acrid bitterness—likely from the machine not being purged before pulling the shot, which any trained barista would know to do.
Overall, the experience was still a positive one. Most of the food was good and the service was friendly. But missing key components like gravy and bread, serving a waterlogged salad, and the unpolished coffee rollout suggest that attention to detail could be improved. The dessert case looked amazing, though I didn’t try...
Read moreWe gave this place a 2nd chance, but it was not any better. Might have been worse. My experiences broken down.
It's called a family restaurant but the atmosphere is trying to be high-end, fancy, jazzy, greek, farm, something or other where you feel like you have to tell your kids to whisper the whole time.
Again, it's called a family restaurant but our server couldn't put our kid's food order in before our order because she has to "hand write tickets"? How to you order appetizers then?
The side salad is shredded lettuce you'd put on a taco.
The food I'm for certain is not homemade in any sense.
For main courses we've had the chicken n' waffles, meatloaf, chicken dumplings, chicken philly and baked ziti. Not happy with any of them. Either under seasoned or over seasoned with salt. We figured it depended on the manufacturer of the food.
For our sides we've had the fries, mashed potatoes w/brown gravy, cabbage, fried okra, fried zucchini, steamed broccoli and Mac n cheese. The fries were without seasoning and cold. The mashed potatoes and gravy couldn't have been homemade. The fried stuff lacked any seasoning and the steamed broccoli we figured was out of a can, also no seasoning at all.
Tried the dessert the first time, didn't dare a second time. Go to Ketchie Creek down the road before it closes if you need something sweet.
$50 for a meal we'd put at a level between hospital food and assisted living food. Needless to say, 2 strikes you're out. My husband and I were so disappointed with both our experiences we spent the whole night playing "I'd rather eat" game. I won't put any of our worst ones, but seriously save your money and go to McDonald's down the road. They have terrible service, but atleast the food would sit better 🤢 it'd love to sit with the owners and have them eat the food with me and tell me they actually enjoy it, Gordon...
