I've been going to Orient House since the early 90's, and it's been my "go to" for Chinese food in Modesto. That changed yesterday. We all know prices have gone up, and while getting a combination plate for $15 isn't the value it used be, prices won't be going back. The bigger problem is QUALITY. The picture shown is the #7 lunch combination, which is Garlic chicken, fried rice and chow mein. Every item on the plate isn't even a shadow of the quality and flavor they used to make, nor the quantity. The garlic chicken was bland and small chunks without the peas and bits of stuff they used to have; the rice was mushy and oily with no egg, and bits of veggies they used to include- absolutely terrible; and the chow mein didn't have recognizable noodles, the only thing redeeming about it was the bean sprouts that gave it a snap - my girlfriend couldn't even eat it and threw it away. While we stayed in the restaurant to eat, they didn't bring our food on plates like they used to, but just the to-go Styrofoam containers with red Solo cups for our drinks. My girlfriend ordered the same thing with prawns, which glowed like firey cheetos for some reason, and were under fried with mushy batter next to the prawns. The Orient House has lost a customer is all I can say, this meal wasn't worth the $7.95 price this used to be 10 years ago, much less the $15 a plate. I can't begin to express my dissatisfaction and dissapointment since this has been my favorite Chinese spot for so many years. Cutting corners and altering recipies and quantity has me sadly feeling I'll never return.

Went for lunch here today with my boyfriend. We went for the Chinese side of the cuisine and ended up both getting japanese food. He got tonkotsu and chicken teriyaki lunch plate and I got yaki udon. I really love udon so it was nice seeing it on the menu, the udon was super good and I felt the portion sizes for me was perfect. My boyfriend did feel like he could have had a little bigger portion sizes, but also cant complain because the price was not bad at all for what we got. I also tried his food and thought it was very good. We definitely would love to come back again.

Only went to this place because the two places next door were packed. Went inside and was empty, ordered at front desk, everything was served in Togo boxes nothing had good flavor. Cream cheese wontons had no cream cheese in them. Chow mein was all bran sprouts and no noodles, sweet-and-sour pork was all balls of fat, no lids for the to go cups either! Sweet and sour sauce was coagulated, I told server about that and she said that’s for its made… very disappointing will not return and regret going!! Should have waited in line at other restaurants

Tried this restaurant for the first time with my husband. Neither of us were pleased. We got an order to go. Once we got home we discovered they forgot to give us an item we ordered. The fried rice was very bland, absolutely no flavor. Same with their mushroom chicken. The way they put it in the bag caused all the juice from the mushroom chicken to leak into the bag. Maybe if it got to sit in the juice there would have been some flavor but it was very unseasoned. The fried prawns we ordered were mush inside, almost not fried enough. The beef brocolli was decent. We ordered chow mein but came with almost no noodles, basically just got an order of veggies. The flavor was good and we enjoyed the veggies but wish there were a bit more noodles added. My husband ordered won ton soup that tasted a bit off from the usual won ton soup he's had from several other restaurants. I would not...

I absolutely love Chinese Japanese food. being originally from the Bay area it is nearly impossible to find food here that meets the standards I'm used to. We have a few places here in town that we like but have never been as completely impressed by any other place than the Orient House. The atmosphere warm and inviting, with very traditional Chinese Japanese decor. The window out front has 12 or so samples of what the entrees will look like. Not some cheesy plastic food but much more realistic. Always helps to see before ordering. The service was excellent as well, our waitress was very attentive and thoughtful. My husband had the sushi it was absolutely fresh and delicious. I had the garlic chicken and it was so good. Such wonderful flavor and crisp the rice and chow mein were awesome too. Definitely our new...
