Laughing Crow looks good on the outside. But then once you get inside, you can't help but notice the issues. First off. The staff. There's a guy named Diego. At first he looks like a nice guy. But then when you get to know him or ask him to do something for you or as some questions. It's like a whole new person is talking to you. For example, I went in there to get a disc resurfaced. I asked Diego to do it for me and instead of saying, "No problem. I gotcha". Instead he decided to be smart and said "Have you tested it?" Really? That's the energy you're putting out? Not only unhelpful but borderline passive-aggressive. It's like serving customers is a personal inconvenience. And don't get me started on his PDA sessions with a mystery girl who occasionally haunts the shop. Whether she works there or not, watching them flirt like it's a high school hallway isn't just cringe- it's bad for business. Overall Diego is a sorry excuse for an employee. I'd hate to be his boss let alone work with him. Next up is Jace. Don't get me wrong. He's a cool dude. He greets you and stuff. But then disappears into irrelevant conversations behind the counter, even when the store's full. I'm not saying he shouldn't talk to anyone. I'm just saying that those side conversations shouldn't take precedence over the customers in the store and the business overall. As someone who seems to have ownership or managerial stake, he should take lead by example and place customer service first. Lastly for the staff portion of this review. There's Jerod. Now don't get me wrong. He's a chill dude. He's welcoming and friendly and all that. Which is awesome. But he's got flaws too. Don't get me wrong. He sets a great example that his son and his employees should meet or exceed. That's great. But that doesn't hide the flaws. He's not there as much as an owner should be. I understand that people have lives outside of work. I also understand that you can't let your business control your whole world. However, owning a store isn't just showing up on Instagram with flashy posts-it's about showing up, period. It's not enough to "set the tone" once a week and hope the place runs itself. Especially when the current team seems more invest in chatting and PDA than customers. I think Laughing Crow should do some soul searching and reevaluate the atmosphere and the customer service experience. Now we're moving on to the second half of what's wrong. The games. They've got a variety, sure-Playstation to Nintendo and everything in between. They go off of a price charting value which makes sense from a business standpoint. But how can they justify charging a certain price for a game that's dirty, missing things, and/or the artwork is either faded or has suffered some kind of damage. That's shameless. Presentation matters. People won't pay premium prices for second-rate condition. The loose games bin is a masterclass in contradiction. You've got discs that look like they've been through a belt sander, yet they're up for sale. When you try to trade a loose game to them they look at you like you said something nuts. But these guys claim that their loose games bin is cool. That's not policy-that's hypocrisy. Well why not add to the bin? By that I mean discs that are not rotting away like they are going to stop at any point in time. I understand that there are customers who are not honest and would want a quick buck for their stuff that looks chopped. But not every customer that walks into the store is someone looking for a payday. Either you're about quality, or you're about cash grabs. Pick a lane. Overall, Laughing Crow is okay at best. They have their merits but the flaws overshadow them. This business has, from what I've been told, only open for a year. But they have gotten complacent with their ways, which is why I'm pointing these issues out. With reflection and a renewed focus on professionalism and consistency, I truly believe Laughing Crow can become a go-to-place for gamers. I just hope these concerns are...
Read moreFinally found our new favorite store. We went in looking for Marvel action figures and boy were we surprised. They have such a large selection of not only toys but video games, cards, vintage games and of course our favorite the action figures. My daughter was so happy she got to bring home a Simpson's telephone from Moe's tavern. My son was also super happy he brought home his Marvel's Scatlet Witch. We will definitely be returning soon. By far best store in Modesto to find some awesome...
Read moreWow! What welcoming staff! This is a family-run video game store that's just getting started. We stopped by during their "soft opening" and they're still setting up, but man do they have a great selection of classic, rare, and hidden gem games. There are arcade machines to play and they sell other collectible items too. What's also great is that customers are able to create a wishlist where you'll receive a phone call if the game you're looking for is in stock. I highly recommend you...
