Taqueria San Jose — Restaurant in Modesto

10/18/21-original review posted Our usual burrito place was already closed last night (10/17/21) by the time we decided we wanted burritos for dinner; so we looked for another place to try and saw all the rave reviews for this one (the one at Briggsmore and Prescott) and since it was open later we went for it. We ordered the super burritos which, according to their menu, were supposed to have meat, rice, beans, salsa, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. We ordered 3 carne asada and 1 carnitas, all super burritos. None of them had salsa or guacamole in them. It makes a difference in the overall flavor, plus you pay more to get all the stuff inside. They also wrap them differently here than any other place I've been to. Rather than wrap the tortilla completely around the filling so the tortilla is only on the outside, they do a jelly roll type of wrap so there is a lot of tortilla on the inside which, before you bite into it, makes it seem like there's a lot of filling inside. However, it's a lot of tortilla inside with a thin layer of fillings around the rolls of tortilla, again more like a jelly roll technique to wrapping it. Despite being disappointed about the missing items and missing volume of fillings (compared to our favorite place), what we did receive had good flavor. Because of that, we have decided to give them one more try in the future to see if last night's order was the result of an off-night or fluke or new person in the kitchen, etc. We are very much into supporting local businesses so we're very willing to give this place another chance in the future.

They are no longer serving quality food and they have become too expensive. I have been a customer for a very long time but will admit that I have not been there for over 5 years. So, not sure why they changed from good to terrible. They have 3 locations and when you call the number on the Prescott location from the website, you actually get the coffee road location. So they had my order at the wrong place. The customer service is the WORST I have ever experienced!! The girls are extremely rude and do not care about the customer. They dont care to fix the problem. This is not just one experience, but my last 3 times going there. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS RESTAURANT, THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY MEXICAN RESTAURANTS TO TRY OTHER THEN THIS ONE. Plus their food is so bad. The meat is old and alwsys cold...

staff was extremely rude. I stood in line waiting to be served while MULTIPLE staff members ignored that I was there. They walked past the counter a multitude of times but did not address me at all, made eye contact with me and they KNEW i needed service. However another patron walked behind me and they addressed all of her needs?!?!. It wasnt until i verbally said something (I said hey are you going to take my order or pretend im not standing here?) that they acknowledged me and this was after about 5 minutes.

I got the soft tacos asada they were good. The quesadilla was GARBAGE. Beans and rice good too.
