I was looking for somewhere to relax after work - it's been a bit of a long week so far. I needed a drink and a nice sandwich, plus some time to decompress before returning home. Parkside seemed a good place to do both for where I was at the moment. Not but a few blocks from the I-74 bridge, it was right off of my route at the time to return home.
The interior is pretty much what I needed on this sleepy Tuesday night. The place is pretty dark - not much more than a few suspended light fixtures over the dining area and bar, some neon beer signs, and the light from the numerous flat screen TVs. A long, worn, wooden bar stretches the length of the interior, with beer taps and bottles of liquor behind. The floor is covered by dark-patterned 2-foot square carpet tiles, while the overhead is uncovered, leaving the unpainted or otherwise unfinished HVAC ductwork on prominent display for anyone glancing upward.
A hallway past the kitchen and the bathrooms leads out to a currently unused patio and set of sand volleyball courts. I can imagine it would be really nice to sit out here in the warmer months with a beer, watching the sun set and feeling the temperature drop into the evening. Perhaps a return visit is in order in a few months?
Actually, I'm pretty sure a return visit is in order - I really liked the sandwich I got! I opted for the Italian - between the sausage, italian beef, cheese, and marinara, it was just what I needed tonight. The bread was soft, but had clearly spent a little bit of time on the grill with some butter, adding both additional flavor and texture. The sausage and beef were both tender, and the marinara had some sweetness to it, but was well balanced by its slight acidity. Definitely a sandwich I want to come back for again!
I look forward to returning to Parkside in the warmer months to sit on the patio for a bit with another sandwich and drink. I really liked the quiet, laid-back vibe on this visit - this is something I could definitely use more of in my life....

We live near here so we're regulars. I've had a lot of menu items. My favorites are the cheddar bacon chicken sandwich, the Daytona wings, bacon cheddar fries and cheese balls! The chicken salad sandwich is delicious; a secret menu item ;) The burgers are burgers lol - good, classic, filling. Sometimes they've even got the grill char-marks! I do agree with other reviews - this is probably my top choice in the QC to get grilled wings. They're large but not full of fat. It's a good amount of actual meat.
In the past we've called a few times and couldn't get in touch with anyone. It either rang a bunch or went to voicemail. So I went there & they were in fact open! I placed my to-go order and was on my way with steaming hot food in less than 20 minutes. I Assume their phones "don't work" sometimes due to large events they host or if they're understaffed..... While the phone ordering is hit-or-miss, all interactions in person are great. Overall -...
Read moreWe stopped about 12:30 pm on a Friday to relax and have a fountain pop ( Pepsi products, for $2.00 with free refills). There were approximately 20 customers, with a mix of age groups. Many looked to be tradesmen having lunch, and eating some type of daily special ( looked like some type of sliced meat, gravy, and potatoes).
The bartender was friendly and attentive; taking and bringing food and drink orders efficiently, and chatting with customers. A separate room had table seating, and they appeared to have a waitress. There are many large screen TVs scattered around the rooms and behind the bar. There was also a small area with about three video gambling machines. The Parkside was clean, well lit, and had large plate glass windows facing the street. There was on street parking, and a large parking lot. The location is easy to get to. We had a nice time, spending about 1 1/2 hours just relaxing at the bar. They appeared to have a a large menu, although we didn't eat on this...
