I'm not sure how I've neglected to embellish my blank 5-star review for so long. Since I'm sure the algorithm will weigh a review filled with text more heavily, I feel it needed to be updated.
The Central Store is massive for a convenience store, which allows them to stock a wide selection of snacks: chips, candy, pretzels, pastries, jerky, nuts, etc. They also offer a rotating variety of freshly cooked, hot foods: pizza, chicken, taquitos and other options to grab and go. They even have a f'real shake machine that I haven't seen anywhere else.
The Central Store houses a large cooler section and additional coolers scattered around the perimeter to keep their assortment of drinks and some grocery staples cold. If you're after a hot beverage they have a coffee/cappuccino station. They offer water, soda/pop, juice, energy drinks, tea, beer, hard cider, a vast selection of craft beer and other more obscure alcoholic drinks. Their hard-alcohol selection is also massive and continues to grow. Just like with their beer selection they offer harder to find, high quality options but they also offer higher quality, lesser known brands that don't break the bank. You can find better tasting alternatives to the heavily marketed, expensive bottles that aren't sold elsewhere. Their alcohol selection is truly hard to beat and rivals some dedicated liquor stores.
The fact that they try to keep milk, bread and eggs in stock has saved me on multiple occasions. There aren't any other options downtown to find fresh grocery items. They also carry frozen pizzas, lunch meat, canned foods, toiletries, batteries and other household essentials. There's also a good selection of Asian grocery/noodles/snacks/drinks you wouldn't typically find outside of a specialty store. Fortunately, even though they stock a wide array of items they seem to rotate stock frequently. I haven't run into anything expired sitting on their shelves.
There's also a cooler filled with sandwiches, microwaveable hamburgers, lunchables, yogurt and other ready to eat items near the checkout. Of course they also sell tobacco, cigarettes, lotto / scratch-off tickets like every other convenience store. Their prices are affordable, the store is clean and they have everything necessary to get by in a pinch. The owner is great, I've been shopping here for years without any issues.
I'm just waiting for the return of deliveries, possibly by drone. They also...
Read moreUnassuming and perhaps underappreciated store with a unique selection of items not found in the area. What drew me to this store was all the buzz I was hearing on social media about its fantastic beer selection. The buzz was spot on! Literally the biggest selection with the highest quality of craft beer I have encountered. Craft beer aficionados know that 4.0+ untappd ratings typically indicate "above average" beers. This place is loaded with them and each beer is available individually so a mixed selection doesn't cost a pile... especially at CS's reasonable prices. The guy running the place was super helpful but not pushy; real easy to get along with. Very fresh, and cold selection with availability up to date on Untappd menu. Great place well worth the...
Read moreI've been frequenting Central Store for nearly two years now and it's an awesome addition to the neighborhood/city/quad cities area! It raises the bar for convenience stores to an entirely new level. The store has an amazing selection of hot/cold food including his mother-in-laws homemade egg rolls (Fridays only)! Even though I'm not much of a beer drinker, it's fun to just browse the hundreds of different craft/specialty beers offered. I live in the neighborhood and sometimes pop in multiple times per week for everything from snacks/drinks/tobacco and staples like bread, milk and even fresh fruit and veggies. It's more a mini grocery store to me than a convenience store! Chris (owner) and his crew are always friendly...
