Set sail last night for Singapore, yet the current shifted, and the riptide left me marooned at Take Cover Tiki Club. An old salt met me at the hatch, and after I flashed my passport, we compared tattoos, arm wrestled, and I was deemed fit for entry.
Shiver me timbers.
While I felt like I stumbled right into Davy Jones Locker, everything was top notch, shipshape, and save myself, there was nary a scallywag in sight. The rattan and bamboo accents along with the Moroccan red hanging lights add the perfect ambiance to the tiki bar vibe. Being the first night open to the public, the captain himself was making his rounds. Perhaps impressed with my tiki shirt, we made short conversation, and with a clap of thunder, expertly shaken by the mates behind the bar, and served in iconic tiki-themed drinkware, I made my way outside to the deck...
Sail ho. To my surprise, I spied the broadside of the building above the crows nest was entirely emblazoned with colors from the legendary Corsair and Muralist Duo; 'Werc' and 'Geraluz', who's massive murals I've seen in ports near and far across the nation.
Everything about this place is golden, another expertly fashioned hangout from Bummer City Inc. An exotic escape I will surely find myself returning to time and time again.

The Rum Old Fashioned is a standout — smooth, balanced, and just different enough to make it memorable. The whole bar setup, with its warm red lighting and island feel, is dialed in without being over the top.
What really sets it apart, though, is the flexibility. You’re encouraged to bring in food from nearby local restaurants — not leftovers from home (just to be clear, lol). Grab tacos from Los Agaves, pizza from Bad Boyz, pad Thai from LemonGrass Café, or even a burger from Rebellion Brew Haus, and chill out on the patio with a drink in hand. That combo is tough to beat.
Matt and the team are genuinely welcoming — friendly without being pushy, and the kind of staff that makes the space even better. Monday Happy Hour from 3:30–6 is a great time to stop in, but honestly, any day works.

Read moreTiki lovers... Go to Moline! Take Cover opened in the fall of 2024, and they are off to an amazing start. 1) the summer drink specials were so special: Pollinator was fantastic! Their house specials were really cool: Spicy Mango Margarita - yes, please. And the classic Tiki - Mai Tai ALL DAY! On point. Vibe was amazing. And Ericka - that girl is freaking awesome. My only complaint (not a complaint; I'm just selfish): We need a Take Cover tiki mug or glass. Just saying. I'm thinking storm clouds, lightning, and a tornado... By the river. But seriously, as someone who goes to tiki bars across the country - stop here. They will...
