Bubbakoo's Burritos — Restaurant in Monroe Township

The food is good, but they don't want to give you any! (it seems) I always get a taco salad. When they first opened, they had no problem filling the taco shell all of the way. Now it is like they only want to give you the smallest amount of filling possible. The server was nervous about asking me if I want items. She seemed to want me to say no to everything and pay for an empty shell. She only wanted to fill it up maybe half way - if that. I said no to some ingredients, but then on the ones I did say yes to she gave very little - one little pinch. I had to ask for more. When the server got to the salad portion, she was shaking her head "no" (seeming to hope I would say no) while asking me if I wanted any of these. It was like: "you don't want any of these - right?" I replied that it IS a taco SALAD, and yes I want some. She seemed nervous, as though the owner is on her case to give the smallest amounts possible. I left with only a 1/2 way (at best) filled taco shell, and the price was considerably higher than it used to be. I don't appreciate having to beg for food that I am about to pay for. Not only is it wrong, but it is also very weird and tense. I used to be a regular here, but no longer. There are other Mexican eateries nearby. I really quite enjoy Bubbakoos, and the owner and staff are friendly, energetic and awesome all around. No issues there. The quality of the food is there as well, no issues there.

My issues begin with the protein portions, or well, lack thereof. We have patronized this place literally since opening day, and before actually at their other locations and one thing that consistently sticks out is the lack on the protein portions.

My wife and I are originally from up north NJ and we have a similar place near us and the prices are about 2 to 3 dollars cheaper for like items and the protein portions are such that I always get 2 if not 3 meals out of a 12 dollar bowl. At Bubbakoos, even though the container is similarly filled and similarly heavy such that you get that "wow" effect of value, but it hardly is. Most of everything in a burrito bowl is rice, lettuce and whatever other fillers. I have actually stopped paying the upcharge for extra protein because there is almost no difference between regular portion and extra protein portion, so why pay more for little difference?

We stopped here unexpectedly. I have had Bubbakoos elsewhere 1x before.

We walked in to a long line. Behind the counter was the owner running his tail off for amazing customer service. We noticed he was training a few new young employees all at one time! I watched and listened. He kept communicating with the line as we waited and was super attentive.

We ordered and I mentioned my Gluten Free needs. He took time to explain how their facility is run and instantly changed gloves for me. Everything was terrific and fresh!

My biggest takeaway from this specific Bubbakoos was the owner’s ability to train, keep customers happy, and positively talk to his employees and be encouraging. One of the new kids made a small error in the order before us and the boss was helpful in teaching him and not ridiculing him or embarrassing him. I appreciated this kindness very kuch.
