You want quality food that tastes great, with friendly service and reasonably priced, then this is your place. Ask for the Deacon or their Porkbelly. You wont regret it. I am actually updating this review, something I have never done before but it seems to me that some folks do not understand what it truly means to visit a small, local sustainable business. After reading some of the low reviews here is a reality check. If you really compare taco John or Mc Donald's with a small local eatery that prepares everything from scratch, you probably killed your taste buds a long time ago and do not fit their target market. If you think that having to wait to be seated means that the place is popular because it is great. You can either wait, you can give them your cell, walk around the square and explore the town and they will call you when your table us ready, which in itself is top notch customer service, or you can take your self entitled, how dare they make me wait, immediately satisfaction attitude somewhere else, like McDonald's or Burgerking, where seating is always available. I commence the owners for their business model. I applaud them to make a living with a tiny hole in the wall business. They could expand, get a bigger venue but they would compromise their values of local, sustainable food. The same goes for running out if a certain item. How dare they not have what you wanted. Again this goes along with the belief of quality over quantity, about the limited availability of their quality, sustainable product. That means they actually live by what they preach, and in my eyes, this deserves applaud, not criticism. Overall I believe we are entering a timeline in human society where we cheer on social media for small local businesses, call for more sustainability but in reality we still want our cheap food, dont really understand nor appreciate what it really means to support local and sustainable because we have been brainwashed by consumerism into fast, cheap satisfaction, regardless of origin or quality. And just to make this crystal clear. This is not a paid review, this is just one personal voice, appreciating a small local business. What you do with this review...
Read moreGreat tasting food, outstanding beef brisket! This is a small quaint place; ordinarily, I would expect the restaurant to reach capacity rather quickly. But these aren't ordinary times: the staff will cheerfully take your order for carry-out or delivery- but no dine in. In Galena IL, I noticed that the restaurants set up up tents and tables on the sidewalk and street to better serve their patrons; I wonder why Poncho & Lefty don't do the same? Curiously, both Poncho and Lefty take cash only. On an ordinary day, cash is filthy as it passes among all of us.
According to Green County COVID Dashboard, a total of 259 people tested positive for COVID 19 in all of Green County: there are 29 active cases in all of Green County, 1 person died and 229 recovered.
Nationwide, about 175,000 people have died from COVID 19, which is a very grim statistic. When we get deeper in to that number, how many people were Hospice patients, how many had life threatening illnesses prior to contracting COVID 19? In America in 2019, according to the CDC, 159,000 people died from unintentional accidents, 650,000 people died from heart disease, 600,000 from cancer, 121,000 from Alzheimer's, 83,000 from diabetes and 56,000 from common influenza (the flu). What is so special about this COVID virus that we had to radically alter our way of life and toss people in to unemployment, close businesses and churches and frighten everyone so? As Americans, why weren't we allowed the freedom to devise ways to keep ourselves and our customers safe? When were these restrictive rules made; when was the public discussion?
Of course wear your mask; maybe change you mask every day (like you would your underwear) yeah? Wash your hands frequently throughout the day and yes, social distance. Can we simply ratchet down the...
Read moreafter years we finally went here last night after the supper rush time. what's the hype? we expected a wait- 25 minutes that's fine. waitress looked and sounded annoyed right from the start. the smoked smell always is good so got a brisket sandwich, he got shrimp w/grits (not tender) and deviled eggs. the eggs wer sour and baby food texture (guess if u like that) and brisket was way over cooked n needed a knife to get a piece off, tasted like burned metal. while there the other staff was collecting and reaching over people to collect the table sauces and rushing people out. if you want to close at 9 don't seat people to rush them out and take their table items. when waitress came back we said the brisket was bad, she said cook probly won't make it but did. got a pulled pork sandwich instead n we said we will feed that brisket to the dogs. never brought the coleslaw and pickle that came with it, didn't get fresh fries. charged full price for burned brisket/no sides and full price for sandwich still no sides n rushed us out. the dogs chewd on the meat like a rawhide for 10 minutes. don't seat people if u can't service. won't be back and won't recommend. the food is definitely not worth the price. 33$ just for dog food n half a pork sandwich not counting the...
