My friends who came in from Mississippi wanted to meet somewhere for breakfast in Monroe before they left to head back home. We had a party of 6 and none of us are from the Monroe area, so we did some Google searching and stumbled upon Public House. The reviews were decent so we figured, why not? Upon entering the restaurant, it was extremely busy. Despite how busy it was, we were told it was only a 30 min wait and surprisingly, the wait was only about 30 mins. That was about the only thing that went well.
Each of us ordered something different. I got the chicken and waffles with a side of scrambled eggs. I wanted the eggs scrambled dry. The side of eggs were ice cold. I got a new batch of eggs and while they were hot, they were slimy. I took one bite and that was all I could stomach. The chicken and waffles were decent. Not hot but at least on the warm side.
The other orders in our party were as follows:
Biscuits and gravy - the gravy wasn't flavorful at all and it had way too much flour.
Steak and eggs - steak was made as requested but the steak was barely warm. He ate it as it was because he didn't want to risk sending it back and it get thrown back on the grill and overcooked, or worse, microwaved.
Bacon and sausage flat bread - the flatbread was warm but all the toppings were cold. The sausage gravy was again bland.
Ham and cheddar omelette with potatoes and a side of sausage links. This meal was being shared between two of the people in our party...the two that were leaving the restaurant to head back home to Mississippi. Their entire meal except for the sausage was cold. They told the waitress that everything on their plate was ice cold and asked for it to be remade. The waitress took the plate and returned no less than a minute later and attempted to hand the plate back to her. Our friend asked if the plate had microwaved and the waitress said yes. So our friend told her to take it back and take it off of their bill. I'm not sure who thought it was a good idea to microwave a plate of food that included toast, as microwaved toast gets soggy, is beyond me. If anything, at a minimum, they should have thrown the food back on the grill and remade the toast. But ultimately, it should have been remade as requested.
If the cooks cannot handle making the food to ensure everything is hot when it gets to the table, then they should seek a new profession.
We had 3 different bills for our table ( 3 couples), and two of us paid over $90 for our tab, not including the tip. The third couple would have paid a little less since they were sharing a meal but it would have easily been over $50 had their food not been ice cold and it wasn't taken off their bill.
If you're going to charge that much for your food, you should at the very least have the staff to ensure a great experience to include HOT food.
Lastly, pay attention to your receipts. They automatically add a credit card fee to the bill. We all paid with card but since this fee is already added in, I'm not confident that they are removing that fee for cash paying customers.
Sadly, we will...
Read moreStumbled upon this place during a late Saturday afternoon and I cannot believe I have never heard of this! The service was exceptional, our server was on top of refills and will to over suggestions. We ordered fried pickles, that are a tempura batter which I haven't seen before, and they were amazing! The dipping sauce was a great combination to the pickles. We also ordered the Brunswick stew, the almost sweet pickled onions and corn was divine. This meal also came with corn beard, which personally, I believe cornbread can make or break a meal. It made this stew a hit. We also ordered hot apple pie, which was journeyman apple liqueur, hot apple cider- AMAZING! The last thing we ordered and the reason it did not receive a five star review was the pressed Cuban sandwich. This sandwich came with two sauces one seemly like a siracha ranch and the other a horseradish cream dip - both were amazing. I love a good Cuban and since all the other food was amazing the bar was set high for this sandwich. Which was good-ish, the bread was amazing, I think they made in house, loaded with ham and pulled pork. However, the pulled pork was incredibly dry, in my opinion this ruined the sandwich. I really wanted it to be excellent and knock it out of the park but sadly my expectations were not met with this sandwich. All in all, this place is great, and I plan on returning. The prices are very fair. The portions are great. The atmosphere is very laid back and welcoming. The service was exceptional. The...
Read moreI have dined here several times over the years. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food is ok - but not consistent. The reason for the 1-star review is because of my latest experience. My husband and I came in for breakfast. There was a wait and we waited for about 10 minutes. Once we sat down we were greeted with our waiter and ordered a coffee and a water. Little did I know then, my one glass of water would be the only water I would receive. We ordered breakfast and I asked for syrup. The waiter didn't understand me, thinking I wanted jam and I clarified I wanted syrup (like maple syrup). All was fine and we waited for the meals. Once they came out, my husband commented on how we received slightly more food than what we get when we do carry out. I agreed. I was given a little bottle of syrup which is not what I asked for as they charge $4 for fancy syrup. It wasn't sealed so I didn't even try it since I have no idea if someone else used it or did anything to it. Over the course of the dine in, my husband's coffee was topped off or refilled at least 4 times. I NEVER received anymore water. And I think it ridiculous to expect someone to spend $46 on two meals, including $4 on unsealed maple syrup to have to ration out one medium glass of water for the entirety of their meal. Very disappointed with that. There should have been clarification on the syrup for sure. And a seal. And at least one...
