I revisited Chan Kee this morning, hoping for a better experience after a disappointing first visit when they initially opened their doors. Unfortunately, my second visit only solidified my disappointment, as it seems to be their standard practice.

While some dishes like the congee were good, the disappointment came when they forgot to add salt to the congee, which is a basic oversight. To make matters worse, when we requested a cold milk tea drink, they wanted to charge an extra $1.50, and even for condensed milk, they added an extra $.5 to the bill, which is uncommon as most HK cafes in the SGV provide these as part of the drink.

What truly compounded our disappointment was the presence of flies everywhere in the restaurant, which significantly impacted our dining experience. It's disheartening to witness such bad business practices with what feels like extortion for basic condiments and a pest issue.

Regrettably, I won't be returning to Chan Kee due to this consistently disappointing experience and questionable...

This is a solid place to get Hong Kong style breakfast. I got the combo meal: fish congee, doughnut, and milk tea with coffee.

Wait in line to order. No tipping because it’s self-serve. You get a pager to know when to pick up your order.

Fish congee was pretty good, except too much ginger for me. Fish had good texture and it was marinated well. It’s enough to feed multiple people 😂

Doughnut was nice and had good chew, not too oily.

Milk tea with coffee comes unsweeten and you can add syrup on your own. If you want it iced, it costs an extra $1.50.

Honestly this particular combo meal (A + B + C) is enough for 2 people, just order an extra drink.

If you dine-in, you get sample of ice cream (vanilla) with a lil biscuit.

Would come...

terrible decision i’ve ever made. i’ve ordered a curry beef stew with rice and fried chicken leg with egg over rice. after 15 mins, one of the staffs came and said there’s no more rice, and i was like what? there’s no rice in a chinese restaurant? r u kidding me? i was like well it doesn’t really matter, and i changed both of them to fried noodles. after another 15 mins, one of the staffs came again and said oh there’s no more curry beef stew and the staff said there’s only pork left, i was like dude???? there’s literally nothing in the restaurant. ridiculous. and it took like 45 mins to get my lunch. everything’s self served, no services at all. water self served, food self served, seats self served. i’d never recommend it....

Have you ever had Chinese breakfast before? Usually it’s just porridge served with rice rolls, fried donut, or soy sauce w/ egg noodles. This spot is a new fast casual Chinese restaurant in LA 626 area that specializes in this. You order at the counter and then find your own seat. Tips are not required and wasn’t even an option on the pay screen since apparently you have to walk up to the counter to get your food. I thought the rice rolls in sesame/hoisin sauce paired with jook were super authentic and good! I would come again just for that. ——— 🥢 Chan Kee 📍 931 W Duarte Rd, Monrovia, CA 91016 ——— 💲 Combo A+B+C (Porridge + Side + Drink) $13.75 ——— #sangabrielvalley #chinesefood #foodviral #foodforfoodies #foodguide #reels #explorepage
