In from out of state. Chose the location because of proximity and easier route to funeral services I attended the next 2 days. It also had mostly good reviews. However, I wish I took the advice of one particular reviewer who said they stayed one night and the room was so bad they moved to the DoubleTree across the freeway and had a much better experience. I arrived with my brother. I booked a couple days earlier; he booked that day. When he tried to check in, they said Marriott systems went down that morning and he wasn't on their printed list. So, he couldn't be checked in, even tho he could show them his confirmation #, and therefore he had to "go to another hotel." Mind-boggling to me that they don't have a manual way to deal with such a simply real possibility like this occurring, especially with many empty rooms. Consider what hotels did just 30 yrs ago before online bookings and cell phones? But the guy telling us this clearly wasn't in a position to understand the argument or make decisions, which means his bosses had even worse leadership. But my brother is the patient type, no matter how angry he is. They gave him a list of Marriott's that were not really close, but he was my ride and couldn't go too far. I told him about that review and how DoubleTree was my 2nd choice. My brother went there and told me later he had much better experience - nice room, good staff, etc. I WAS on the paper list and got checked in, but that was more bad news. Lobby and dining area looked great, but from the elevator to the room it looked like a rundown, old hotel - especially the room. And I got the 8th floor and the last door at the end of the hallway (as they typically do with online booking service users). Decor was typical modern-retro Marriott, decent TV, but had popcorn ceilings and the furniture was very worn and filthy. My room smelled like an old guy bathed in Old Spice and stayed there for a week. I happen to have a minor allergy to whatever that spice is in some colognes and perfumes. Fortunately, I discovered it was only on the bedspread. When I took that off and put it in a drawer, 95% of the smell went away. I never would've slept otherwise. The bed was good and comfortable so I did sleep pretty well. The furniture had very obvious stains, and the desk chair and side table were so worn they must've been original room items. I simply never used nor put anything in or on that part of the room. That bad. The bathroom was clean so I give them credit there. But the final blow was that the windows might as well not even been there in terms of sound. That was the first night of the ongoing rain the past couple weeks so I'm glad it at least kept me dry and warm, but I could every single noise outside and on the freeway. Fortunately, freeway traffic worked like white-noise for me and I slept, but light-sleepers beware. Basically, their rooms could use furniture and minor design upgrades, bedspreads need more frequent cleaning, windows need another pane. Clientele was also dry. Seemed like it catered to pretentious middle-aged guys not on business or holiday. That was my situation, but I was forced into it by a funeral. The desk girl the 2nd day was a bit more attentive and nice. She found and lent me an umbrella for my brother. I also had a breakfast sandwich at the dining area that was possibly the best I've ever had and worth the $12 I spent. Other than that, I was glad the funeral and all the places my brother took me to downtown kept me out...
Read moreI had to come for one night on business. I used the mobile app to check in. When Uber dropped me off and I walked over to the front desk, no one was there. I waited a few minutes and then wandered over to a door labeled office. Victor was there and immediately came to help me out, apologizing the entire time. My initial room was no longer available, so Victor moved me to what he said was a better room, which he matched in price, in a quieter location. He also threw in a free breakfast. Thank you Víctor!
Lobby is done in beautiful wood and calming colors of blue and yellow. There is a computer area with a mural of an orange Poppy Field, typical of this area of California. Most of the hotel is filled with black-and-white photographs.
Wi-Fi is free here. The beds are very comfortable. There is a coffee maker with coffee and tea in the room. The there's also a refrigerator for your use. The bathroom is small but sufficient, with a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and decent towels. The bathroom light turns on automatically when you step in. And the shower? It was wonderful. Strong just the way a shower should be.
There is no safe in the room. The desk is well situated near a glass door which leads out to a balcony (which does not open) so there is lots of light. The desk chair is adjustable. Best of all there are 6 outlets at the desk and two easily accessible outlets by the bed (while I was waiting for a ride in the lobby, I noticed two outlets at desk top level by the couch at the front door.) I love hotels with lots of outlets. A must in this day and age.
There is a marketplace in the hotel where you can buy snacks, food, and anything else you forgot to bring from home. There is also a restaurant which serves breakfast from 6 to 10 Monday through Friday and 7 to 11 on weekends. It is also open for dinner from 5 to 11 daily. And if you eat too much, there is a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and fitness center.
Breakfast choices include different eggs, oatmeal, cold cereal, fruit. Starbucks coffee is served. You can eat in the small café, or take the food to go up to your room. I didn't have dinner here but The menu lists barbecue chicken, steak, fish, amongst a few other choices.
The hotel is located near the freeway, and there is slight freeway noise even on the quiet side of the hotel (I was...
Read moreI booked a King room for myself and a queen room with double beds for two elderly co-travelers. At check-in, the night auditor told me that the room I specifically booked with two beds for my guests was not available and that the best he could do was a king room with a pull out sofa. This was not acceptable to me or to the 65 year old individuals who were going to stay in the room. After about 20 nminutes he ended up giving us three rooms for the first night. This was not handled well and should have been prepared for well in advance of our arrival.
In my room, I had remote control air conditioning units. The units did not work and my room was uncomfortable but I just wanted to get some sleep and figured I would get it fixed in the morning. The next morning I called the front desk and asked them to send someone up to either fix it, or show me how to operate it. After about 45 minutes and a second call requesting help, a hispanic man arrived, looked at the units, said multiple things to me in broken english that I could not understand, and indicated that he was going to get some help and return. He never came back.
On the morning of my departure, it was unbearably hot in the room and I called again to ask them to come look at the A/C unit. The same man showed up. When I asked him why he didn't come back yesterday he smiled and shrugged his shoulders and looked at me with a blank stare. He came in the room, and in a replay of the prior day's visit, pushed a few buttons, nothing happened, he called someone on the radio in spanish, and then began to walk out. I had a lot to do to get ready for the day and just told him to bring me a fan so I could at least have some air movement in the room.
25 min later, a fan arrived.
Also, my bill was very confusing. After about three attempts by the front desk staff member to explain it he finally realized it was wrong and that some charges had been moved from some other account to my account. I think he fixed this but I really don't know as I had to leave and couldn't devote any more time to trying to figure it out.
I'll never stay at your hotel again, my comfort was not a priority to anyone, and I am very disappointed that this is a...
