I've been looking at this place for a while but didn't have a good reason to go until now. A friend of mine was in town, so I decided to take her. Parking is a bear but we found a spot. I entered the room and it was super cozy. I loved the decor and music. The host was quick and sat us down at a nice table. After figuring out what dishes were made of we ordered Aloo Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala for her and Tofu Goan for me. As well as a side of garlic naan, plain naan, and rice We also got a drink which I didn't catch the name, but it had bananas, mango, coconut, and a touch of pineapple, I think. It was thick and really good. My friend didn't like the texture and viscosity. The samosa arrived as 2 large pieces. With a tomato based sauce on the side. The samosas were cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious with very so slight bite that paired well with the potatoes and peas. The chunky sauce sat on a bed of curly beets and carrots. Very colorful indeed. The main courses came out and they smelled delicious! She liked her Chicken Tikka Masala, but the meat was a bit tough for her, so she dipped the naan in the curry. "The naan is like pizza dough!" I gave her side eye and said, "You Midwestern girl." She giggled. My Tofu Goan was wonderful. The tofu held on to the spicy and flavorful curry and when placed on the rice, it was a flavor explosion in my mouth. Even better than the Indian food I had in AZ. Rating: 1 Star for environment, although it did get too noisy for me. 1 Star for Excellent service. 1 Star for Dish presentation 1 Star for Flavorful food 1 Star for Overall quality of...
Read moreThe claim about it being a British curry house was what made me try it out as being a Brit myself I’ve been to many curry houses in Manchester and London and have always left them in a food coma. When I ordered my food over the phone I was told there was an hour and twenty minute wait which was okay for me as it was a Friday night. I arrived at the restaurant an hour and a half later, but my order wasn’t ready. I had to wait another thirty minutes and I thought great food fresh out of the kitchen it’ll still be piping hot when I reach home twenty minutes later. That food must have come out of the kitchen Luke warm, because it was cold when I got home. People were still waiting after I left who had arrived before me and they were with Uber eats and Grubhub. Then there was so much confusion as to whether it was a fish and chip shop or a curry house. I can already hear Gordon Ramsey saying, “ making your 🤬 mind up which one are you? You can’t do both!” Clearly they can’t, nice idea though!! As for the food, it was mediocre and each dish had some flowery taste going on which was so overpowering it ruined the other flavours. The only really tasty item was the kheema samosa. The food was so expensive in comparison to other curry houses I’ve gone to and ordered so much more food for the same price. I was excited to try a new Indian restaurant, but once again yet another curry house in Montclair has left me...
Read moreMy family has been coming here for years.
They don't accept reservations but you can call ahead 20 minutes in advanced to hold a table for that long. There is metered parking on the street but you might be in for a walk depending on when you come. They are also BYOB.
My parents are vegetarian so this place was great for them because they have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options.
What I love about this restaurant is that you can choose your sauce from a list of 5-6 options, choose your protein and then choose your spiciness level. If you don't want the make your own option the staff can make suggestions and there are typical Indian dishes on the menu as well.
We had: Goan with Paneer and Goan with Vegetables: both were delicious! The curry has a slightly sweet, fresh coconut taste but is spicy at the same time from the chilis. Madras with Paneer: This curry is very similar to the Goan but it has a tomato taste. Matar Paneer, Daal Makhani, Tikka Masala with Paneer - pretty much the same as you'd get anywhere else. A little more on the creamy side compared to some other places. Naan and Aloo Paratha: Excellent! Their naan is super soft, fluffy and not too buttery. The aloo paratha was fried perfectly and had just the right amount of potatoes.
The staff is friendly and provides good service. I had had a very poor experience here a couple years ago but since then they seem to have an...
