I was there today around 4pm, and I understand it's almost closing time, so they had very few options.... However I have a loved one in the hospital who is 92, and she has celiac disease, so I drove 30 minutes to get her something to brighten her day. This was my first time at the bakery, to begin the parking situation is a little crazy around Montclair. Once I was able to park, I asked for something soft (being that the options were limited) so I took a brownie and a cookie, which the attendant suggested to wrap with plastic to keep overnight. I asked if she could please wrap it just in case being that it's going to a hospital, her answer was "my manager doesn't allow me to do that" so I asked if she could sell me a piece, because I didn't have any with me (mind you, she had a box of plastic wrap right behind her), she proceeded to wrap it with an attitude. I paid my bill and she walked away, I called her because I needed a little bag to put everything in, and she responded with an attitude saying "it's 10 cents" I said ok, so I paid, took the bag and left. I dont know if she actually charged me for the plastic wrap or not, I never got a receipt. The brownie and cookie looked good, grandma seemed to enjoy it. I didn't care about the price, however I didn't appreciate the attitude. I drove half an hour just to get a couple of little things and I was not treated properly, I am a paying customer and I deserve to be treated with respect and not with an attitude. The fact that she said her manager doesn't allow her to wrap the cookie in plastic, when she suggested to do so... I find it hard to believe. I was very disappointed... It's shame that some employees can really give you a very bad...
Read moreI have just recently been told that I can’t have gluten and for me this was a big deal. Many people choose this but I did not . I do not have a wide variety of food that I like so I am finding this a struggle. I googled like many others and found this bakery and I am happy that I did. I have been there 3 times and have not been disappointed. I have gone and when I get there there may not be a wide variety but that is ok because you need to go early to get what you want. Once I found that out now I call ahead and they prepare my order and I go and pick up it very simple. I prefer that I know the items are fresh and made daily rather than having something stale. The cream puffs are delicious, corn bread also delicious the crumb cake is also delicious , and their country bread as well. There is a chalk board that says how to keep your products fresh at home. I slice the bread and wrap in Saran Wrap and have not had an issue. I made delicious French toast. The service is always nice and helpful and i recently met the owner and she was nice too and explain a lot about the food and how they/she prepares her items . Gluten free is not fun or easy so to find a bakery locally that is working very hard on making this as enjoyable as possible thank you I will call and order chocolate chip muffins and freeze that for a treat. One review mentions the cost all bakeries are about the same price. The cost for their overhead is also expensive and the items in the grocery store are more so obviously they have to charge a certain amount to be able to provide the customer a pleasant experience and a delicious item Thank you...
Read moreI went to visit plum bakery for the first time last week. I ordered two eclairs (one powdered and one chocolate), one glazed doughnut, and a cinnamon role. I had one pastry each day. The glazed doughnut was good, just a tad but on the dry side. A bit more moisture, and it would be PERFECT! The eclairs were delicious, just a smidge on the dry side as well. I haven’t tried the cinnamon roll yet, but I plan on adding a bit of butter to it, and warming it up today. I’ll keep you posted.
Service was fine, the young man who gave me my pasties was helpful and helped me understand exactly which pastries I was getting.
Atmosphere was simple. It’s very quaint so I wouldn’t say it’s a spot where you can sit in and relax for a while; so I would plan to get your pastries to go.
Please keep in mind that I may be a bit bias since I found a gluten-free bakery where they don’t have to tailor my order or have super limited selections. Every pastry was safe for me to consume.
My overall recommendation is that this shop adds a bit more variety of rich flavors like a chocolatey peanut butter cake; or ooey gooey chocolate chip cookies, cheesecakes, tiramisu or crème brulee 😋 In any case, I’ll be...
