I rarely ever leave reviews but let me tell you that my experience today at this establishment has compelled me to do so.
So I enter the tea shop (which I have frequented many times before either with my friends or my wife) and I greet what seems to be the couple who own the place. We approach the counter and my friend orders a bubble tea and the man asks me whether I will order anything as I have to if I’m going to sit down. My friend immediately orders another bubble tea so we then look for an open bar seat and sit down. Mind you we are both working remote for a billion dollar company and we are both professionals who are always respectful to those we meet.
I had brought food with me because I did not have my lunch but my friend asked me to join him so I did. After about sitting for 5 minutes the man approaches me and raises his voice to tell me that i need to take my food and get out and tells me “I don’t need people like you” here. Honestly I was stunned at his behavior as I’ve never had such an experience at any business in my whole life. My family owns 4 businesses and they would never ever treat someone like that. Then the lady gets involved and tells me that they don’t need my attitude (haha good one) and that she will call the police at which point I am still in shock as to why they’re attacking and threatening me. I replied to her that I would have zero problem if the cops were called as I’ve done nothing wrong and agreed to obey their rules and would leave but I will not tolerate being disrespected.
The man realizing he was completely wrong, apologized to me but the woman just kept on going…
In conclusion this business is pathetic with completely unprofessional owners and I will share my story with everyone because others should not be subjected to such behavior. They need to respect people and speak to them the right way, you don’t know who you may be talking...
Read moreThis Lower Montclair CoffeeShop has a very homely ambience, while still staying true to the "Trend"ing theme, I visited on a Friday evening during live entertainment, the waitress warned about $5/person minimum, which disrupted the vibe a little bit, Otherwise, the vibe was very good, a broad spectrum of guests, young, old and in-between, and modern paintings covering the walls, the presentation of Desserts in the case was beautiful as was the overall design of the store, the owner was also very hospitable, The live entertainment was very good in terms of talent, but the placement of the performer and the volume were both a tad off the rest of the vibe, (While not a factor in the review it is apparent The location was redesigned and was not always this type of establishment) Less positive, were prices per portion, now I'm always for higher prices if it is more upscale area, and quality establishment especially a small business, and I do feel strongly the lovely setting warrants higher prices, but the quality of the food is questionable as per the price, and the portion unacceptable, The food is good, yes, but not ~$5/ baked good, good, and the portions are outrageously small, Tea for $2.50 and only 8oz of water with a single bag! This is Tea, not an anti-coagulation prescription!!!!! And their "refill" reuses the original bag! Still a pretty good experieince and I venture to say would truely be a Five star, but price vs. quality & quality as well as stage placement need...
Read moreMy friend and I had a morning to relax, and stopped in after seeing the coffee shop as we were walking. We weren't sure they were open as noone was in the place. When we went in, we were told to sit wherever we would like. We chose a place near the window where we could eat and people watch and enjoy the atmosphere. It actually made me nostalgic for a place I used to frequent in college. We were planning a leisurely morning maybe evendors stay til lunch. I should have known it wasn't to be when my friend was told he couldn't order a large coffee, he could only order in a mug. We ordered a mediocre breakfast, and had barely finished when the waitress told us to move because they had reserved the space.
First, if that was true and the space was reserved ahead of time they should have told us when we went to sit down. I believe that they reserved it after we arrived, because the two older ladies who came in appeared to be regulars and kept giving us dirty looks because we hadn't moved yet. Mind you the entire back was open with no customers. The waitress came over again and said, we really needed to move. We had been waiting on a water my friend had ordered and our bill. So I snapped back we would move when we got our check. She said we were supposed to pay at the counter.
Mind you we were first time customers who were shuffled out for regulars. I regret leaving a tip. We...
