We started our filling out a ticket for each sandwich which is standard practice. But upon entering we were not greeted in fact I waited at the deli counter for at least 5mins to just get my ticket taken when there was only one person ahead of me. Just a minute later a local came in and of course his ticket was taken and sandwich brought to him in around 4 minutes. I stayed in the shop waiting for another 30 mins while three more locals came and went with the same service that I and others weren't given and no they didn't order online or by phone and the reason I know is because it was so quite in this place u could have heard a pin drop. The owner would peer out from behind the counter when someone came in to drop a ticket off and very rudely exclaim "give me yo8ur tag." And that was it until he gave you you're order. Then it really got uncomfortable... he would ring up everything and not say a word besides the price when he was done even after I asked how he was doing, he just looked away like I was bothering him. I handed him my card he swiped it and threw it back to me on the counter and did the same with the receipt and the pen to sign it, we truly felt like it was an inconvenience for him to be helping us. On top of that the sandwiches were nothing to write home about I'd even go so far to say substandard. I ordered a coast guard which is basically a ruben but you can't get a whole sandwich on rye for some reason, although a giant a sandwich what laid inside was disappointing. The pastrami was rubbery like calamari rings and the bread couldn't hold up to the filling it was supposed to hold, so much that my wife had to eat her with a fork and gave up halfway through due to Disappointment and dry chicken breasts. Easy to say due to the owners outstanding rudeness and a subpar expensive sandwich we will not be returning and hope anyone looking for food off the beaten path won't patron this establishment. My recondition for off the path is Lucy's on lighthouse....
Read moreThis is an institution that's been serving our warriors for over 50 years. DLI, the defense language institute, is right across the street and although it gets busy at lunchtime they had 3 people making sandwiches and the line moves fast. Their awesome bread is delivered fresh from the Palermo Bakery in Seaside. This is a family run business with a dedicated following and they have excellent service and great food. There's an unreal assortment of gourmet and novelty chips and drinks to complement your bodacious sandwich. I ordered a half sandwich of the #2 with everything and posted a picture of half of that. So, think of a quarter sandwich... Just that was enough to satisfy and I had trouble finishing the second half (of the half). I had them use the ghost pepper jack cheese (yes, that's a thing) and add some jalapeños and extra buffalo sauce. So good. If you sit and eat inside and you might just get invited to sample a slice of their awesome cakes too. I went with a friend from work and we split a small slice of the peanut butter chocolate cake which was delicious. Another customer was there to get a sandwich and a whole cake for a party which came out to about $60. Our 2 half sandwiches, 1 large canned drink, and 2 large bags of chips was $27. They take credit cards and you can call in your order ahead of time if you're in a hurry. We will...
Read moreIt's no wonder that the name Compagno comes from the Italian word "compagni," which means "he who shares the bread with." It's so great that we have amazing cultures and food here. This delicious sandwich shop is quite liberal with their ingredients, and by doing so, they make for happy customers.
The ordering process is very democratic. While you wait in line, you fill out what you would like on a piece of paper. It was as easy as mailing in a ballot and then waiting for your order to be prepared. It's set up like a butcher's deli. No need for a wall to separate the workers from the customer. You just hand your order over the deli counter.
Leaning to the left on the counter, there were some delicious desserts. The cakes looked incredible and diverse. There were white coconut cakes, dark chocolate cakes, and even carrot cakes there. They all looked equal in tastiness. I will definitely have to go back and try them all. I got the half club on Italian ciabatta bread. It was delicious and huge. Compagno's must not believe in limiting or restricting the distribution of its ingredients because the sandwich was loaded with goodies. If you are in the area and are hungry for a great sandwich, check out this place. I doubt you'll find another deli in town that can build a...
