Do NOT come here unless you want to receive raw food and the ugliest service imaginable. I received a raw burger and an uncooperative, argumentative server, which made this horrendous experience my final one at this establishment. Strike one was when our server carried an unwrapped straw with her bare hands and plopped it onto the table for the milkshake. The shake was watery and less than ideal. Strike two was when we received microwaved burgers, which led to a greasy mess on our plates and soggy bread. The fries were also completely unseasoned, without a pinch of salt. Not only that, but when cutting my burger, I discovered it was not thoroughly cooked. We're talking RAW here. So we sent it back with the server, who offered no apology, just snatched the plate from the table to return 5 minutes later with the SAME PLATE OF FOOD. The SAME burger that I had taken a bite out of 5 minutes before. The bun and fries were soggy, the lettuce was wilted, and the tomatoes were runny. The ketchup I had put on the plate was warm and melted. The entire plate had been microwaved and more than likely was not even brought to the chef's attention. It then took us 5-10 minutes to flag our server back down, even after making eye contact and vocalizing that we needed her. She blatantly ignored us and had absolutely no interest in serving us... no interest in doing her job. Strike three, however, was the server's obnoxious, disgusting attitude when we told her we would not be eating the horrid meal. When we told her it had been microwaved and that is not the proper way to handle this situation, she responded with, "What else was I supposed to do?" ...UM maybe have the chef REMAKE the burger??? I don't even think the undercooked patty was brought to the chef's attention. She clearly took the plate back and microwaved it herself. The server took the plate back, went to her supervisor, and he handled the rest. To which while we were expressing our concerns to him, she loudly bitterly complained about us to the customers sitting in the booth behind us! Her supervisor apologized relentlessly, comped our burger, and offered us free dessert. However, I was no longer hungry because I was nauseous and apalled by the lack of food safety standards and common service etiquite that I was more interested in suppressing the nausea building up in me than taking another bite of food. Although his response was much more professional, he even tried to excuse her behavior by saying she had been "getting up there in time with the company," which is no excuse for this type of behavior. My family has worked years in the food service industry, and myself as well. We understand the struggles that go along with customer food service. We understand what goes on in the kitchen, and I would never dream of offering this type of reprehensible behavior, regardless of how long I've worked with the company or how bad of a day I was having. I am disgusted and revolted by this abhorrent experience and will not return, and I advise everybody else who is interested in their health and wellbeing to do the same. I am still struggling with ridding the nausea and upset stomach that this experience has given me, let alone work up an appetite for dinner again. This type of behavior is abominable and unexcusable, and their kitchen deserves a close inspection after...
Read moreStepping into this classic American diner is like taking a delightful step back in time. The atmosphere immediately envelops you in an inviting sense of nostalgia, with its well-worn booths, bright neon signage, and the familiar clatter of cutlery on ceramic plates.
The food at this establishment offers a comforting, no-frills approach to traditional diner fare, and yet, everything I tried was executed with a level of finesse that elevates it above the norm. The Eggs Benedict was a notable standout. It arrived at my table with perfectly poached eggs, their yolks a vibrant, sunset-orange. Draped over them was a blanket of hollandaise sauce, rich and tangy, with a velvety texture that harmonized beautifully with the eggs and the lightly toasted English muffin beneath. The sauce was neither too thin nor too thick, striking the perfect balance and adding a luxuriously creamy element to this dish.
The Scrapple, an often misunderstood diner staple, was equally impressive. At this eatery, it's treated with the respect it deserves. The exterior was crisply seared, forming a contrast to the soft, flavorful pork interior. The spices were balanced just right, making each bite a savory delight. It was a reminder of why this dish, when done correctly, is a beloved part of American cuisine.
Each element of my meal spoke to the care and expertise of the kitchen staff, from the seamless service to the attention to detail in every dish. This is a classic American diner that's not just going through the motions. They're preserving a beloved culinary tradition while adding their own subtle refinements, and the result is a dining experience that's as satisfying as it...
Read moreI've been in the North Wales area for the past three years, and found this diner a while ago. I love the food - never had anything bad, fantastic servers...BUT, this past weekend another couple joined my boyfriend and I for lunch at the American Star Diner. We accompanied the salad bar with our meals - and were enjoying a cup of CREAM OF TURKEY AND RICE SOUP. Suddenly I realized I was eating pieces of ARTIFICIAL CRAB MEAT, and notified one of our guests, who is highly seafood allergic! Luckily it was artificial, and her throat did not close, but she began to break out in hives and soon thereafter become sick. When we brought the fact that there was ARTIFICIAL CRAB MEAT in CREAM OF TURKEY AND RICE SOUP to the owners' attention, he responded with "it's in the receipe." We told him it was not posted anywhere (including the dry-erase "specials board" that was four feet away from the soup bar) as an ingredient for patrons who may be seafood allergic, and that if were real crabmeat, she would have had to be rushed to the emergency room. Instead, he kept on telling my friend that she was "Ok" and that she "looked Ok...You're fine." One of the servers tried telling us that this white and pink substance was turkey!?!?!? We ended up taking the girl to the emergency room to be on the safe side. Long story short, if you or someone you know have any sort of food allergies - I wouldn't recommend eating here. They don't care what ingredients they use who or it...
